Plant Manager (Prospect, CT)

Our client in Prospect, CT is currently hiring an Operations Manager (Plant Manager background, reports to Regional Plant Manager under V.P.) to manage Plant operations.

This is a new role, created due to growth, that will be head person at growing facility when Regional Plant Manager is not present. First 90 days of this role will focus on safety, learning production, then finally, reporting. Long-term goals of this role are safety, lean sustainability, managing staff, and leading new projects (infrastructure/ construction, machinery, etc.). Plant Managers, Regional Plant Managers who no longer wish to travel, Project Managers with Engineering background (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Chemical), or Industrial People Supervisors, all will do well.

The Operations Manager has general management responsibility for the overall manufacturing processes as well as the physical facility. This includes strategic planning for the manufacturing responsibilities including product quality, cost management, plant safety, and employee relations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop a manufacturing team to provide exceptional customer service at the lowest possible cost while maintaining a safe work environment. Specific duties include management of employee development/training, plant scheduling, recruiting/terminations, customer contact, root cause analysis, financial tracking, safety implementation, supplier evaluation, and process improvement.

Oversight and leadership of the Lean Manufacturing journey in the plant. Additionally, strong emphasis on employee engagement, capacity improvement, visual management, and advanced manufacturing techniques are required for success in this role.

Oversee inventory control to include all raw materials, supplies, and finished goods.

Creating an environment for success among supervisory and production employees. It is pertinent that the Operations Manager convey an attitude that is positive and confident; coach their staff to achieve their highest level of performance while treating them with respect and dignity.

Coach and develop supervisors and team leaders in their managerial skills to align with overall company goals.

Collaborate and interact with cross functional departments and at various levels within the organization to achieve facility and company goals.

Manage the buildings and grounds to ensure good manufacturing practices are adhered to and a professional appearance is maintained.

Continuously monitor compliance with all environmental permits pertaining to the manufacturing process and facility.

Required Skills/Abilities/Knowledge:

Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and problem-solving tools.

Proven ability to select employees, set goals and objectives, coach, and lead direct and indirect employees, and conduct performance appraisal reviews.

Ability to function in a team environment, work well with others, handles multiple priorities and projects are necessary.

Strong interpersonal skills with colleagues and direct reports.

Strong process and mechanical systems understanding, project management experience is a plus.

Strong proficiency in MS Office and ERP Systems, SAP experience is a plus.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree engineering, business administration or related field preferred.

Five to seven (5-7) supervisory/management experience, with at least four (4) years in at least manufacturing specifically.

Prior experience in operations research/process flow and scheduling department work.

Strong problem analysis and resolution skills.

Experience using SAP and Microsoft Office applications.

Strong communication skills and proven ability to lead people and get results from others.

Prior experience with Lean Manufacturing and 5s.

Understand fundamentals of coaching, counseling, and feedback.

Strong problem analysis and resolution skills.

Comprehension/understanding of reading, speaking, and math skills.

Ability to measure performance of standards and goals.

Packaging Engineer - HEADS UP Job Summary: This position leads the design and technical development of packaging solutions for new and existing products. This position is responsible for the development of packaging materials by working with product management and vendors to recommend, review, test and identify costs for various packaging design proposals. The position is responsible for creating detailed specifications and accurate bill of materials for successful packaging implementation. The position supports production facilities by assisting in issues resolution and optimizing packaging design to ensure peak performance. Role Responsibilities: Packaging Optimization Identify and initiate packaging research aimed at decreasing costs, reducing material usage, and improving recyclability while maintaining product packaging integrity. Partner with procurement on implementation of cost reduction strategies/initiatives. Conduct value analysis activities to identify and implement packaging material and structural changes to improve production and labor efficiencies. Review internal and external customer data to understand causation of packaging failure or sub-optimal performance and develop/implement corrective actions accordingly. Identify and drive opportunities to standardize materials to reduce complexity and enable volume leveraged pricing for packaging components. Documentation Create and publish robust and accurate specifications which detail critical attributes to ensure consistent material quality and packaging assembly to meet aligned performance requirements. This includes mechanical drawings, written specifications, and process instructions. Leverage specifications and partner with procurement to identify the right packaging vendor partners. Provide necessary packaging component mechanical drawings for artwork development and layout. Approve graphical artwork for correct application to mechanical drawing and critical-to-function attributes i.e., UPC Create, enter, and publish accurate packaging bill of materials into the Material Data Management System to enable planning and sourcing of materials, and correct build of the Finished Good Item. Publish specifications and bill of materials to meet established timelines and priorities to enable production planning and material order requirements. Support creation and review of packaging quality standards and tolerances, and regulator documents. Work with Procurement to obtain cost estimates for new packaging materials by providing necessary specifications and information. Assist in presenting cost estimates for input into business case impact analytics. Ensure packaging related risks and key decisions are proactively, timely, visibly, clearly, and thoroughly documented in project team minutes, gate review documentation, on-line project folder/archives, project presentations, and emails. Product Packaging Development/Commercialization Collaborate with project initiator to define, understand, and align to project objectives and expectations. Design, review, recommend, and test various packaging design proposals. Consider various packaging material substrates and structures in the design of primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging to minimize material usage and optimize manufacturing and labor efficiencies, while maintaining product integrity and enhancing retail performance and aesthetics. Determine impact of new packaging design on existing and new automation systems at manufacturing locations. Develop design-of-experiments/test methodologies on packaging materials and structures to determine performance attributes best suited to maintain product quality, integrity, and maximize shelf-life while minimizing costs.
