GE Vernova Generator Application Engineering Leader in Remote, Virginia

Job Description Summary

As a member of the Generator Engineering Leadership, you will be leading a global Application Engineering team, while also executing some of the tenders yourself. The team will be accountable for providing during the ITO phase technical proposals and engineering effort estimations for all Engineering related tasks of Own Fleet Capital Parts and complex Upgrades. The fleet to be covered ranges from industrial and nuclear steam turbines in the Americas to the global installed fossil fleet.

You shall drive operational excellence, technology innovation and standardization within the Application Engineering Team.

Success will be measured through the lens of our customer - Our engineering services need to be safe, compliant, right first time, fast in delivery and executed to budget.

Job Description

  • Performs technical proposals for Generator CM&U for stator rewinds, field rewinds, replacement fields, uprate studies, reliability studies and others

  • Attend R1 calls to determine customer technical needs

  • Determine the hardware scope of supply, electromagnetic performance uprate coordination, input data for cycle and costing, and create a technical portion of the commercial proposal.

  • Support and coordinate with interfacing organizations such as Commercial Operations, Sales, Design Engineering, Service Managers, Manufacturing, our factories, Supply chain, Project Management, Field Service and other groups

  • Know the capabilities of each of the GE workshops

  • Support and coordinate external customer meetings and resolve customer technical questions and issues (including clarification and exception for the bid specification)

  • Performs the Tender Engineering process steps of Technical risk assessment (TRA) – delivering a Technical Risk List (TRL), Tender Design Review (TDR) and R2 summary

  • Support the training and development of global team members

  • Continuous improvement of proposal basics with feed-back from execution

  • Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.

  • Communicates difficult concepts and may influence others' options on particular topics. May guide others to consider a different point of view.

  • As team leader, you are required to:

  • Develop the teams technical and soft skills.

  • Lead the teams Daily Management rhythm.

  • Have the ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and with external customers/suppliers.

  • Have experience with Lean and propose ideas for continuous improvement in the engineering processes

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the Application Engineering process documents

  • Be familiar with standard solutions for each fleet (GE Schenectady and Lynn, BBC/ABB, Alsthom, GEC and Alstom).

  • Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or related field of study from an accredited college or university

  • At least 5+ years of combined experience in mechanical engineering of turbomachinery or power plant components, technical field services, repairs, plant operations services, or a related technical function

  • Several years of experience in tendering activities ranging from typical transactional service business to complex upgrades

  • Proven competence and experience in customer negotiation activities

  • leadership experience, preferable in an international setup

  • Able to travel regionally or globally as needed

  • Desired Qualifications

  • Commercial awareness to also consider non-technical boundary conditions

  • Fluent in English

Notes:

The salary range for this position is 111.200,00 - 148.300,00 USD Annual. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a 15% performance bonus.

*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
