Leidos Assistant Department Manager in Remote, United States

Description

We are searching for an Assistant Department Manager to join the Gibbs & Cox Warfare Systems Team to oversee 15+ full time engineers. The Assistant Department Manager supports the Department Manager with leading the team through planning, organizing, development, review, and delivery of products. Duties include direct engagement with engineers, along with their respective projects, to ensure scope, schedule, budget, and technical constraints are met. In parallel, the Assistant Department Manager will support as subject matter expert in the field of Combat Systems, C4I, and Navigation.

Location: The team will consider a candidate who is fully remote but prefer this person will be located within the Washington DC metro area to attend client meetings and ability to work in the office as needed to review classified products. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Managing a team of specialty engineers.

  • Providing strong, proactive, and dedicated leadership skills that engage multidiscipline work teams to respond to business needs for assigned projects.

  • Developing or reviewing products such as analyses, calculations, reports, and drawings.

  • Offering mentorship and training for professional development and growth.

  • Determining staffing and tasking for the team.

  • Solving engineering problems.

  • Marketing and networking new opportunities and customers to expand the portfolio of Warfare Systems, C4I, and Navigation support.

Basic Qualifications

Candidates must have a minimum of 7 years US Navy surface, air, tactical warfare combat systems/platform experience with carriers, DDGs, CGs, LCS, large deck, smaller amphibious ships or land based test sites.Experience as a qualified warfare coordinator operator/technician is required. Experience as an Operator Supervisor or Maintenance Technician desired.

  • U.S. Citizenship and Active Secret Security Clearance are required.

  • Ability to write clear, concise, and easily readable technical correspondence to document reviews of technical recommendations following technical reviews and collating of comments.

  • Articulate in oral and written presentations; possess high organizational skills and the ability to multi-task to meet deadlines.

  • Experience working dynamic programs with fluctuating scope and integrated coordination of multiple engineering disciplines.

  • Possess an understanding of US Navy system architecture across logical, functional, hardware, software components.

  • Possess operational knowledge of US Navy combatants, weapon systems, and threats.

  • Familiarity with key stakeholders and customers located in the shipbuilding industry and relevant government entities such as Naval Surface Warfare Centers, NAVSEA, OPNAV

  • Advanced knowledge of naval architecture, marine systems, and ship design process

  • Familiarity interpreting and applying relevant military standards

  • Strong technical writing and written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and with remote team members and/or customers

  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of time

Additionally, must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with the team and customers. A formal degree or the combination of education, technical certifications, training or work/military experience supporting engineering or analysis experience is always a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.S. or Advanced Degree in engineering, analysis, or related discipline desired but not required.

  • Experience with training and readiness of Navy vessels

Pay Range:

Pay Range $101,400.00 - $183,300.00

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
