JOB DESCRIPTION – Database Administrator

We are seeking a Database Administrator who can develop and maintain COA's data environment, including AWS EC2, RDS, and RDS Custom instances, data warehousing through Snowflake database services, data ingestion through things like data pipelines, ETL/ELT, data exchange, data lineage, and data quality. This role will interact daily with our Data Analytics/Data Science, Finance, Operations, DBAs, and DevOps teams. The ideal candidate will be smart, passionate about data and eager to continually grow.

JOB REQUIREMENTS Job Duties:
Setup AWS based EC2, RDS, and RDS Custom instances to support Microsoft SQL Server 2019 to current and be able to regularly monitor maintain these instances.
Triage and fix production application issues
Create and maintain jobs and steps using SQL Agent and SSIS to develop maintenance plans and other common tasks such as backups and log shipping.
Establish programmatic tasks and perform unit tests of code and solutions using tools such as Windows Powershell, SSIS, and Python.
Interface and consume application APIs for batch data ingestion
Work with Data Science group to design, implement, and optimize analytic solutions
Work with other departments on reporting design and efficiency
Follow corporate and team standards for design, security, efficiency, application logging, monitoring/alerting, and documentation
Stay abreast of new technologies and practices to further enhance team capabilities and own skills
Participate in on-call rotation to support new and existing products
Qualifications:
5+ years hands-on experience with Microsoft® SQL Server, including setup and configuration, troubleshooting poor performing queries, running traces, performing backups and restores on demand and through maintenance plans, using indexes, stored procedures, views, and triggers
4+ years working in Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other cloud environment
3+ years hands-on experience in Application Development
2+ years hands-on experience using scripting tools such as Windows Powershell to perform tasks and processes.
2+ years hands-on experience with ETL/ELT tools and/or using scripting for data movement or ingestion (Python preferred)
1+ years hands-on experience with Business Intelligence tools (SSIS, Tableau, etc.)
1+ years working with Snowflake, AWS Redshift, or other commercially scaled cloud data warehouse provider
Working knowledge of encryption protocols and data scrubbing methods
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field / equivalent experience
Ability to build and maintain servers and databases on those servers in cloud-based environments such as AWS
Ability to confidently perform updates and alterations to production environments.
Ability to lead projects when required.
Ability to perform system level task such as server monitoring, traces, backups and restores on SQL Servers in a cloud-based environment
Ability to monitor database servers for poor performing queries and aid in performance tuning when applicable
Ability to setup, monitor and maintain replication and/or log shipping to support synchronous or near synchronous data sources across multiple environments
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapid growth environment
Ability to solve problems and learn business rules and processes
Ability to demonstrate strategic, data-driven thinking combined with efficient implementation
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to both technical peers and business customers
Ability work on a team as well as complete projects and tasks individually
Hands-on, self-starter with a positive attitude and strong work ethic
