What you'll do... :

H&R Block is looking for a seasoned Enterprise Technology Manager with expertise in overseeing complex data platform environments, with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure. In the Tax Data Operations Manager role, you will lead a team of talented software and data engineers, as well as analysts, playing a key role in shaping and executing our data strategy. You will be a critical bridge between IT development, enterprise architecture, and product teams, ensuring efficient data ingestion and integration across multiple platforms. Your contributions will be vital in driving the adoption and integration of both third-party and proprietary data from tax and banking applications, creating a comprehensive omnichannel data platform to elevate the client experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of robust data architectures, databases, and processing systems, ensuring they meet the organization's dynamic needs.

  • Manage and optimize data pipelines, architectures, and data sets to ensure efficient data flow and processing.

  • Establish and implement data engineering policies, strategies, and procedures that align with the company’s goals and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to transform raw data into actionable insights that drive business decisions.

  • Ensure that all data practices adhere to relevant tax regulations, focusing on data security, privacy, and quality.

  • Lead and participate in evaluating new technologies and recommending solutions that align with business objectives.

  • Maintain strong relationships with internal IT and product teams, providing actionable insights and ensuring smooth transitions when deploying new systems.

  • Serve as a key point of contact for internal stakeholders, translating technical data into strategic business insights.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the enterprise data platform.

  • This position is essential for maintaining the efficiency and reliability of the H&R Block data platform, enabling us to provide high-quality, data-driven services to our clients. The ideal candidate will have a solid technical foundation, proven leadership skills, and a strategic approach to drive innovation and optimize our data operations.

What you'll bring to the team... :

  • 8 years Minimum related work experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience.

  • Direct people management experience, including mentoring and managing data engineers.

  • Experience with key Azure Data Services, including ADF, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Databricks, Azure Stream Analytics, Azure SQL Database/Managed Instance, and Cosmos DB.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and end-to-end quantitative thinking.

  • Proficiency in using Azure Machine Learning to build, deploy, and manage ML models and integrate predictive analytics into business processes.

  • Ability to collaborate with IT and product teams, translating technical data into strategic business insights and ensuring smooth transitions when deploying new systems.

  • Experience handling multiple projects while meeting project deadlines; project management experience is a plus.

  • Ability to develop and maintain key vendor relationships.
