Microsoft Corporation Senior UX Designer in Redmond, Washington

343 Industries is the developer of the blockbuster Halo series of video games. Join the UX/UI/Tech Experience Design team and create engaging user experiences that are regularly engaged with by fans around the world. The UX/UI team is responsible for user-friendly experiences, engaging user interfaces, performant UX/UI technical implementation, content, branding, and much more across multiple Halo game titles. UX/UI is looking for a Senior UX Designer for the future of Halo video games. As a UX Designer on the team, your designs and UX process will spearhead future Halo gaming experiences that are sustainable and scalable. You’ve worked closely with User Research (UR) and are familiar with various UR methodologies and limitations. You are an empathetic UX designer, who advocates for the best user experience and understands the value of being data informed. You seek to understand the audience. You are comfortable articulating the user’s needs and presenting thoroughly thought through, end-to-end UX solutions to teammates, partners, and leadership. You are obsessed with digging into user scenarios. You are flexible and can collaborate and help define overall strategy and quickly switch gears to focus on the details. You work to create clarity when there is ambiguity. To you, no design task or detail is too trivial.

The Senior UX Designer will be accountable for delivering best-in-class UX design, information architecture, prototyping, and contribute to the overall efficacy in the design process, maintain great stakeholder relationships, and help to drive a center of design excellence within the studio. The candidate has hands-on experience crafting large-scale digital products and interfaces, who sees design challenges as opportunities, has a demonstrated track record of craft and embraces a culture of growth mindset, mentorship, and coaching. This candidate will collaborate and thrive within multi-disciplinary teams operating in an environment of innovation and excellence. Roles at our studio are flexible, and you can work from home up to two days a week in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the vision and best practices of Halo's user experience with the goal of being “UX Led”

  • Produce best-in-class, accessible, user-friendly experience designs catered towards Halo fans the world over

  • Own and contribute to UX Design Systems with tools like Figma

  • Rapidly prototype UX Designs in Figma and in-engine

  • Refine your designs through iterative design cycles that include testing and evaluation

  • Collaborate with both internal and external partners to ensure user experience excellence throughout the entire the gaming experience

  • Communicate and present your design ideas, user flows, wireframes, and specification documentation to Designers, Producers, Engineers, Partners, User Research, and Management

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 5+ years experience working in product or service design

  • OR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 4+ years experience working in product or service design

  • OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).

  • 2+ year experience working with User Researchers and methodologies

  • A history of successful user experience design for high quality entertainment products, websites, native applications, or software

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements is required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Unreal Engine

  • Previous experience with console/PC titles with at least one shipped AAA game

  • Passion for games a plus

  • Previous experience with large, fiction-rich games or entertainment franchises

  • You are comfortable working in an exciting, fast-paced, deadline-driven working environment

Product Design IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
