Microsoft Corporation Senior Software Engineer in Redmond, Washington

The Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) team drives the creation of Microsoft's cloud infrastructure. Within CO+I, the Datacenter Planning & eXecution Engineering (DPXE) team manages a portfolio of complex, multidisciplinary, multi-million-dollar, multi-year projects, responsible for architecting, designing, and building advanced connected systems and tools using AI and microservices architecture to enable real-time management and support of critical business functions, such as cost, schedule, networking, commissioning, sustainability, procurement, safety, and planning. The team has a charter to deliver against the NorthStar goal of developing robust automation for these functions through well-engineered systems while simultaneously designing an AI-powered recommendation engine, integrated into the broader CO+I ecosystem.

Our Systems Engineering team delivers innovative solutions to address the automation needs to scale our delivery capabilities. We are looking for passionate, high energy Senior Software Engineer who can deal with ambiguity and innovate to deliver automation capabilities that power the long-range execution planning efforts, drive workflow improvements, and build solutions to assist in the delivery of large-scale data centers through efficient management of cost and schedule. *This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Washington, D.C., Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ.

*Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates must relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.

*This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to 100%.

Responsibilities

  • Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features.

  • Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.

  • Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable.

  • Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation.

  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems.

  • Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

  • Shares knowledge and code assets with the engineering teams.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Proficiency in software development across at least two of the following domains: Web application development (React JS/Angular/Equivalent), Cloud Development (Azure/AWS/Equivalent), Service development (.NET/Java/Equivalent).

  • Robust analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of abstracting concepts and crafting efficient solutions. Exhibits a data-driven approach and proficiency in extracting insights from data to influence team decisions through compelling analysis.

  • Proven experience in integrating solutions across a diverse range of technology stacks.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.

  • Proficiency in Design, Development, and Deployment of AI-driven solutions using suite of Azure Artificial Intelligence (AI) services or equivalent experience in Non-Azure AI services.

  • Innovative thinker with a track record of transforming ideas into successful products/solutions.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
