Within the AI Platform, the Azure ML team enables data scientists and developers to build quickly and easily, train, deploy, manage, and consume machine learning models. 

  

Our Azure Machine Learning Training Team is at the forefront of this mission, working on groundbreaking projects for training / customizing OSS models. We collaborate closely with research institutions, industry leaders, and organizations worldwide to create innovative solutions that impact millions of users.

As a Senior Software Engineer on our team, you will be instrumental in driving the development of our training platforms. You will work on the architecture, design, and development of the core Training platform powering AzureML to tackle challenging problems in large scale training of LLMs, LVMs for various tasks such as natural language, text analytics, computer vision, conversational AI, etc.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Software Engineer in our team, you will:   

  • Work on the architecture, design, and development of the core Training platform powering AzureML to tackle challenging problems in large scale training of LLMs, LVMs for various tasks such as natural language, text analytics, computer vision, conversational AI, etc.  

  • You will bring knowledge of innovative technologies and collaborate with experts to further it.   

  • As a contributor in a customer-obsessed team, you will collaborate with data scientists and other developers on the team to create the necessary abstractions, infrastructure, interfaces and implement features to train ML models.

  • You will also be working on scaling these features for big data using distributed systems.

  • You will drive the incorporation of these customer-inspired innovations into our software. You will take holistic ownership of your features.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Ability to debug, read code and work on a large and increasing codebase. 

  • Experience with building internet-scale services and distributed systems.

  • Knowledge of Engineering and machine learning systems.

  • Passion for machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data science.

  • Experience mentoring other developers, working partners and being a team player. 

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

o OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

o OR equivalent experience.

  • Proficiency in Python programming skills and familiarity with containers.

  • Experience with or have a good understanding of large-scale distributed training techniques to optimize resource utilization and minimize bottlenecks. Knowledge of DNN architectures and experience using deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or Tensorflow.

  • Experience developing AI infrastructure.

  • Familiarity with Azure is a plus.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
