Microsoft Corporation Principal Technical Program Manager in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft’s Cloud business is experiencing explosive growth, and the Cloud Supply Chain (CSCP) organization is responsible for enabling the infrastructure underlying this growth. CSCP is responsible for strategic sourcing, customer demand forecasting, capacity planning and management, supply chain planning and execution, capacity provisioning, and decommissioning and dispositioning of datacenter assets worldwide.

Cloud Manufacturing Operations and Fulfillment (CMOF) organization within CSCP manages business operations performance and supplies hardware to the data centers. Well-defined and executed supply chain management ensures reliable on-time performance, optimized cost, prevents urgent and unplanned investments, and provides accurate and timely information across the supply base and internally across the infrastructure organization. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide.

Within the CMOF organization, the Readiness Engineering & Sovereign (RE&S) organization plays a key role in the pre-dock readiness and First Footprint execution across GPU, Compute, Storage, as well as end-to-end Sovereign execution across CSCP. The role of Principal Technical Program Manager will be responsible for driving strategic cross-functional transformations and business initiatives across the RE&S organization. You will be leveraging your experience in the domain to deliver cloud capacity to our customers. The primary focus will be on deployment strategies, process improvements, operational excellence and engineering solutions that enable us to scale with predictability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide thought leadership for the end-to-end Readiness Engineering function to drive faster time to market across multiple resource types and capacity expansion scenarios

  • Identify business and technology transformation opportunities to drive increased efficiency and predictability in readiness engineering

  • Definition of multi- year operations maturity roadmaps enabled through related solution/engineering roadmaps and delivery commitments.

  • Provide guidance when working with Software and Hardware Engineering to design and integrated readiness solutions to crucial technical needs for multiple feature areas

  • Partner with key organizations across Engineering, Planning, Sourcing and NPI to drive end-to-end improvements

  • Drive capacity delivery with focus on speed and predictability

  • Create, manage and govern key strategic partnerships across the Cloud business between supply chain management, data center teams and engineering teams to drive the necessary orchestration and integration

  • Lead roadmap discussions and business reviews at operational and executive levels through presentations and effective communications.

  • Mentor talent in the organization and contribute to the growth of organizational capability.

  • Participate in interviewing, developing and managing talent.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years people management experience.

  • 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Other Requirements

  • The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are needed for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screening: Microsoft Cloud Background Check - requirement to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check is needed upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 8+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

  • 4+ years people management experience.

  • 1+ year(s) experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).

  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives with key stakeholders: Engineering, Operations, Planning and Deployment functions

  • 10+ years in technical program management and/or operations management in the Enterprise Cloud/Hitech domain

  • Experience in leading large-scale programs, and a proven track record of successfully setting up and executing technology/supply chain operational processes ideally in the data center/server deployment domain

  • Ability to lead in ambiguous situations, and deal effectively with conflicting priorities and changes with nfluencing skills and ability to build relationships across multiple layers in the organization

  • Proficient with performance analytics, and able to generate quality outputs for an executive audience

  • Experience in technical operations deployments and working with engineering organizations across a large technology enterprise

Technical Program Management M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
