Azure Hardware Health Service is looking for a Principal Software Engineering Manager to be a part of the fast-paced and exciting business of Azure. As a Principal Software Engineering Manager, your engineering leadership experience will position you effectively to manage great engineers and great products. We are looking for a highly motivated and hands-on engineering lead to come and help us develop and light up innovative hardware solutions that powers Azure and make our world-class cloud infrastructure even better. To be successful in this role, you have a great track record of leading an efficient engineering team and delivering quality results to customers, an innate aptitude for agility, and technical excellence in large fundamental cloud engineering. Responsibilities

This is a hands-on management and technical leadership role where your focus on coaching and continuous improvement in capability will be fundamental to you and your team’s success.  

  • You will be responsible for leading and growing the team.

  • Providing thoughtful feedback, nurturing an inclusive environment, championing engineering fundamentals, and providing mentorship to team members to growth.

  • Design, develop and operate large scale, low latency, and high throughput cloud services.

  • Provide overarching technical leadership and direction to a team of large mission critical cloud services focused developers to deliver global scale services to support the fleet hardware resilience.

  • Being an active leader in Azure infrastructure eco-system, work closely with partner teams to ensure highly effective and reliable end-to-end solutions.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 6+ years of experience shipping or running complex production systems that run on public cloud.

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in leading architecture for large scale systems, designing and coding on mission critical scalable distributed systems and running live site.

  • 3+ years of people manager experience and solid experience of building, mentoring, and growing high-performing engineering teams.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Cloud fundamental infrastructure services.

  • Familiar with Azure or Bing.

  • Experience working in collaborative teams and cross-group efforts.

  • Proven ability to plan, schedule and deliver high quality software. Role model of engineering excellence.

  • Experience and passion to work in a global environment.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
