Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineer in Redmond, Washington

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to provide technical leadership and drive implementation of client build, release, and validation gating and support feature flighting across multiple platforms, devices, and operating systems. Our infrastructure allows feature teams to deliver a new feature to millions of users in the order of minutes in an automated fashion. We utilize big data to understand customer usage, enable rapid detection and debugging of issues.

Responsibilities

As a Principal Software Engineer on our team, you would work on, but not be limited to: 

  • Design, develop and maintain engineering infrastructure, tools, and services that power the Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) for Microsoft Teams across different clients/platforms.  

  • Build tools/bots and leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to improve developer productivity, contribute ideas to continuously improve our systems, and drive actionable code and product quality feedback. 

  • Champion best practices, tools, and processes for a data-driven, quality-focused release of Microsoft Teams as frequently as possible to our customers. 

  • Build tools/bots to improve developer productivity, contribute ideas to continuously improve our systems, and drive actionable code and product quality feedback. 

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop overall product vision as well as strategies on how to realize the vision by identifying technical challenges & proposing solutions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience with end-to-end ownership of projects that meets quality standards.

  • Experience collaborating with other teams to craft overall product vision, strategy and delivery.

  • Experience mentoring and coaching early-in-career engineers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with cloud services, Azure Platform as a Service (PaaS) & Services.

  • Experience developing and maintaining engineering infrastructure tools/bots.

  • Experience with ownership of shipping features and with CI/CD processes.

  • Experience shaping the technical direction of a project or product, aligning it with business goals and guiding the team toward successful implementation.

  • Experience in decision making, ability to resolve conflicting points of view, and the capability to develop solutions.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
