Our team is focused on building systems and experiences to help people work with their content in brand new ways through the latest developments in large language models and generative AI. We're a collaborative, fast-paced team of engineers, product managers, designers, researchers, and scientists. We work in close partnership with other teams spanning across Microsoft. We are looking to hire a Principal Software Engineer to join our team.

Responsibilities
We're looking for a Principal Software Engineer who's excited about the latest AI developments and passionate about turning them into real world magic for hundreds of millions of people at planet scale. You will apply engineering best practices to build resilient, fault-tolerant systems and fast, polished experiences at massive scale. You should have experience building and shipping world class software with a good understanding of modern web technologies and full stack architecture.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
5+ years of experience in one or more languages: TypeScript, C#, Python, Java, C++ Experience with LLMs, orchestrators, embedding models, and vector databases
Preferred Qualifications
8+ years of experience shipping production services software
Empathy for end-user needs and passion for high quality experiences
Passion for software engineering excellence
Familiarity with cloud computing platforms like Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud
Experience with service design patterns and concepts REST, RPC, JSON, GraphQL
Experience operating, troubleshooting, and supporting high performance and business critical production systems.
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
