The Windows Silicon and System Architecture (WSSI) team is currently recruiting a Principal Silicon Architect with a passion for delivering high quality SoC experiences.  As a Principal Silicon Architect on our team, you will be responsible to provide detailed requirements, innovate on capabilities and experiences seeking improving SoC power/performance and battery life while enabling unique experiences by working with Windows OS, 1st party applications and SW vendors.  This role requires detailed orientation and affinity to enable efficiencies in process and methodologies from early interaction to our silicon through guiding and engineering organization from experiences to the final product release.   You, in collaboration with the rest of the team, will work with system engineers in specifying the SoC needs delivering high power/performance solutions while balancing feature capability and cost for product category.

Responsibilities

  • Tuning and optimizing our Silicon Architecture process and methodologies.  Requires understanding the balance for prompt delivery of requirements and maintaining rigorous follow up with partners and engineering organizations. 

  • Evaluating and defining SoC goals and architecture that enable devices-experiences expectations.  

  • Staying in tune with the competitive landscape of the ecosystem, technology trends and roadmaps, existing architecture and areas of improvements.  

  • Architecting and leading the design of the power management sub-system.  

  • Specifying system-level power management functionality (FW and HW) application processor SoCs . 

  • Estimating power consumption and silicon area of complex systems .

  • Tuning SoC strategy based on knowledge of industry capability and opportunities for IP ownership and tuning methods.   

Qualifications

Required Qualfications

  • Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience

  • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience

  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 8+ years ownership of SoC products definition and architecture.   

  • Knowledge of mobile computing power/performance trade-off, tuning methods and SW components interactions including knowledge on Si process technologies and manufacturing methods. 

  • Experience managing great levels of ambiguity and minimal direction to extract relevant goals while driving to completion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years ownership of SoC products definition and architecture.   

  • Expert knowledge of mobile computing power/performance trade-off, tuning methods and SW components interactions.  This includes knowledge on Si process technologies and manufacturing methods. 

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills - cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.  

  • Demonstrated ability to perform in a high paced product development environment.  

  • Ability to perform in a high paced product development environment.  

Electrical Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
