Spearheaded by a team of highly experienced business leaders and specialized engineers, Ossia offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to build one of the most highly anticipated technologies of our time. Countless devices across the globe will one day use our safe and smart solutions. You will feel great about creating new and clean technology that helps people stay always on and always connected. Our employees are the key to our success, and we are fortunate to have found some of the best and brightest. There isn’t a more inspiring team to work with and no better time than now!

The Role:

As Principal RF Hardware Engineer at Ossia, you will be responsible to provide technical leadership for the design and delivery of integrated consumer electronic devices. This role requires broad knowledge of several areas in RF, hardware design, and systems engineering; requirements definition and verification; system architecture; interface definitions; circuit design and PCB floor plan; routing guidance of mixed-signal boards; RF design, test, and measurement. The position requires solid experience, and strong communication.

The Cota Receiver team will create 5.8 GHz power receivers and communications transmitters bringing Cota power delivery to customers. Create single and multiple antenna designs using simulation and prototyping to enhance power delivery in a multitude of environments and create proof-of-concept designs for new power delivery applications.

Responsibilities include:

  • Gather requirements, develop architecture, lead development of wireless power receiver designs, and lead a team of transceiver-focused engineers.

  • Circuit board level design of a variety of RF circuits and systems operating over the range of 2GHz and up to 60GHz.

  • Participate in design reviews and provide feedback where areas of improvement are needed.

  • Create technical documentation including schematics, specifications, test procedures, bill of material (BOM), and PCB design documents.

  • Provide technical critique of designs created by other engineers.

  • Work closely with key suppliers and create custom RF IC specifications.

  • Contribute to the technology roadmap and the creation of new features to enhance system performance.

  • This is a hands-on role where at least 50% of the time will be spent in a lab environment.

  • May work independently or in small teams. Extensive latitude in judgement and decision making.

  • Mentoring and providing technical guidance to other team members is an essential role and responsibility.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with at least 3 years in a technical leadership role

  • Experience in the design of low power embedded systems which include a mix of RF, analog, and digital circuitry

  • Knowledge in antenna design principles and tradeoffs

  • Experience testing products for regulatory compliance and debugging common issues related to EMI

  • Understanding of both theoretical and practical limitations of RF design principles

  • Expert in the design of RF transmitters and receivers along with commonly used components used in the 2–10GHz frequency bands (e.g., amplifiers, filters, VCO’s, etc.)

  • Experienced in the design of printed circuit boards (PCBs) at frequencies of 2–10GHz. Demonstrable understanding of good RF design best practices to minimize RF losses and maximize RF isolation. RF transmission line (both microstrip and strip line) design experience.

  • Proven track record of taking products from concept through to volume production. Knowledge of product development process and best practices to create a quality design while working within schedule and cost constraints.

  • Experience designing for low cost, manufacturability, and reliability

  • Expert-level familiarity with the use of common test equipment in the evaluation of RF circuits and systems (e.g., spectrum analyzers, high speed oscilloscopes, and vector network analyzers)

  • Ability to utilize modeling tools such as MATLAB, SPICE, HFSS, etc. to develop solutions to complex design problems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with antenna design, including use of common tools such as HFSS

  • Experience working complex RF systems including antenna arrays

  • Experience in the design and test of RF-DC rectification circuits

  • Experience designing PCBs with Altium Designer

Education:

  • BS/MS in one or more relevant engineering disciplines (EE, CE, etc.) from an accredited university or trade school. Will consider equivalent military training.
