CITY OF RED WING Building Official in RED WING, Minnesota
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary Provides building inspections, plan review, and code enforcement services for the City of Red Wing as it relates to the International codes and Federal, State and Local laws and ordinances. This individual serves as the licensed building official for the City of Red Wing, required by the State of Minnesota. Essential Job Functions An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties: Day-to-Day Operations: Review project plans and documents for compliance with Federal, State, and Local codes, laws, and ordinances. Supervise building inspectors and temporary employees; evaluate and discipline employees; monitor and coordinate work and maintain timecard records. Monitor subordinate training and state certification to comply with state and local requirements. Verify licensure and registration of architects, contractors, plumbers, mechanical contractors, land surveyors, and other professionals prior to issuance and signatory of building permits. Assist in managing Building department budget and approve expenditures. Prepare and approve written records and reports at each stage of construction to document compliance or record replacements and ordered corrective measures. Perform related tasks as assigned. Records Management & Training: Update computer files on building permit issuance for compilation of reports and records. Calculate and prepare state required surcharge reports. Resolve interpretation issues with building, plumbing, and mechanical codes. Prepare and maintain records of plans, inspections letters, and reports prepared or used in connection with all building inspections. Respond to questions from property owners, builders, and professional design professionals. Oversee final inspection for construction projects at completion for issuance of Certificate of Occupancy. Work with other city departments in coordinating plan approval and building code related issues. Prepare informational handouts to help the public understand state code regulations. Work with Community Development Director in helping city attorney to prepare building code related cases. Administrative: Attend Quarterly meetings and workshops and read technical literature to keep current on state codes. Attend minimum of 56 hours of state required continuing education to maintain license. Approve all repair orders and condemnation or vacation of houses, buildings, and other structures deemed substandard or hazardous. Provide plat map data to contractors and homeowners. Purchase necessary supplies and equipment. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Experience, Education, Certifications, Physical Requirements Experience Required: Minimum of three (3) years of building inspection experience, including two (2) years of lead worker or supervisory experience, or equivalent. Minimum Education Requirements: Two (2) years of post-secondary course work in building inspection and technology, or equivalent for state licensure. Certification: Must possess a Minnesota Certified Building Official Certification and valid MN Class D driver\'s license or equivalent. Must be bondable.
