This role is based at our Red Bank, NJ headquarters office, and the program is set to begin in June 2024.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for handling the Bank’s accounting procedures, supporting operational activities, and ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles as adopted by the Bank. This position will be a flexible resource within the accounting department covering a range of responsibilities such as ensuring the accuracy and completeness of general ledger transactions, financial reporting, and regulatory reporting. This role will also provide support for the preparation and filing of the weekly and quarterly regulatory filings including FR-2900, FR-2644, Call Report, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains or prepares financial reports, records and general ledger accounts in accordance with established accounting policies and practices.

  2. Prepares journal entries, analyses, account reconciliations, and supports the month end close process.

  3. Performs general ledger account reconciliations, verify accuracy of data, and report, identify, and correct errors as required.

  4. Assists the department with accounting analyses and problem solving including, but not limited to: implementation of new accounting pronouncements, integration of new systems, conversions of existing systems, general ledger maintenance, analyze transactions and data sets with internal and external stakeholders.

  5. Assists in providing schedules and commentary with respects to variances and comparisons between periods, both budget and actual.

  6. Responds to information requests, reviewing financial statements, and assisting with audits (internal and external).

  7. Assists with compliance of bankwide Sarbanes Oxley controls, risk assessments, and other related initiatives.

  8. Participates in the review and/or redesign of operational processes to support reconciliation, dataflow controls, and increase the operational efficiency of the Bank’s accounting systems.

  9. Assists in preparation of the weekly and quarterly filings such as FR-2900, FR-2644, Call Report, etc.

  10. Performs other related duties as assigned by the accounting department, which includes but is not limited to, preparation of schedules for monthly and/or quarterly reporting, supporting accounts payable, etc.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong analytical skills with superior aptitude for numbers.

  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint – knowledge of Power BI and RPA is a plus.

  • Reliable, dependable, and maintain a degree of flexibility.

  • Demonstrated ability to inclusively collaborate with others to solve problems.

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Accounting required.

  • Eligible to sit for the Certified Public Accounting exam a plus.

  • A minimum of 1 – 2 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Internal and External Contacts

  • Maintains frequent contact with the accounting department, other departments, and senior management.

  • Maintains occasional contact with consultants and auditors.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Hybrid work environment and ability to travel throughout the Bank’s footprint.
