GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

The Office of Campus Culture and Diversity will lead the development and implementation of proactive diversity initiatives for students which will support the College’s strategic plan. The Coordinator is a position reporting directly to the AVP of Student Services. The Coordinator will also engage students to build a welcoming and inclusive culture at Hinds Community College. This employee will assess potential barriers and develop strategies focused on recruiting and retaining a diverse student population. This is a grant-funded position funded by the US Department of Education from the Predominately Black Institution Formula Grant.
The primary areas of accountability include compliance, advocacy, and education. The incumbent serves as an advisor and resource person for students in the areas of Campus Culture and Diversity and intake and investigation of concerns across the College that pertain to discrimination or harassment.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
A bachelor’s degree in speech communication, post-secondary education, sociology, social anthropology, public administration, human resource management, or other related fields is required. A Master’s degree in one of these disciplines is preferred. Experience performing the duties described may substitute for the education requirement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
Advocates for the College's dedication to Culture and Diversity by engaging with individuals and organizations both within and beyond the college community.
Assisting with the record-keeping of expenditure of the PBI-F grant budget
Assisting the PBI formula grant technical specialist with travel authorization, expenditure, and documentation for projects
Facilitates the creation and execution of inclusive College-wide initiatives aimed at promoting cultural awareness and diversity among students.
Establish and execute a strategy focused on promoting diversity by creating a Student Campus Culture and Diversity committee.
Engage students in activities that encourage cultural exchange, dialogue, and understanding.
This includes employees, students, community leaders representing diverse ethnocultural backgrounds, as well as government enforcing authorities at the Federal, State, and local levels.
Participate in Title IX trainings and contribute to the operations of the Title IX office.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to organize events, workshops, and seminars that promote cultural understanding and appreciation.
Partner with various campus departments, clubs, and organizations to integrate diversity into campus life and activities.
Serve as a liaison between students and the administration, ensuring student voices and concerns related to diversity are heard and addressed.
Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness to create continuous assessment measures for the office.
Promote a safe and respectful environment for expression of diverse viewpoints
Collects, conducts research and analyzes data to perform statistical calculations and generate reports to comply with federal and state regulations.
Engages in and provides guidance on the College's efforts to recruit and retain underrepresented groups.
Collaborate with the Human Resources department to design programs and training sessions for students.
Conduct research and integrate best practices that uphold diversity within the college.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will not have supervisory responsibilities at this time.
