The EHS Manager partners with area employees, drivers, managers and the director across all designated operations in order to facilitate and improve the region’s ability to meet safety and compliance standards and promote the organizations safety values & principles. The role of the EHS manager is to co-own continuous safety improvement with the Operation Managers and Directors in order to reduce and prevent occupational injuries, vehicle incidents and liability claims.

The EHS manager conducts audits, ride a longs, provides technical and professional training for employees, and works shoulder to shoulder with employees to improve the quality and consistency of safety training, standards, communications and program implementation. The position reports directly to the EHS Director with a dotted line reporting relationship to the respective Operations Director.

Job Responsibilites:

  • Partner with the Operations Director across all aspects of safety – co-own operational safety performance

  • Develop a working relationship with drivers and 10-day employees to develop a safety strategy to improve location safety metrics

  • Visible in all areas in the operations throughout the year

  • Provide company and industry safety training

  • Provide safety training and indoctrination of all new area managers and promotions within their respective area

  • Make use of lessons learned from incidents and audits, share them with the EHS Director to develop safety alerts for the purpose of reducing incidents and injuries

  • Perform safety audits of fleet vehicles, operations, and offices

  • Follow up on audit corrective action items to ensure remedies are being completed within the established timeline

  • Perform incident response & investigation as required.

  • Daily review Samsara camera system for lessons learned and driving CE’s compliance to operating vehicles in a compliant/safe manner

  • Other safety & training related duties as they arise (include employee training as necessary)

  • Assist Managers with their responsibility to follow local, state, and federal regulations and company policies and procedures

  • Proactively coaches team members in the various facets of safety performance and leads by example

  • Regularly reinforces safety messages by conducting behavioral safety observations, safety briefings, and facility safety walk-throughs to provide a strong visible presence in driving safety at the operational level

  • Actively participates on regularly scheduled conference calls or meetings to promote involvement, engagement, and consistency to help insure a safe work environment

  • Travel to all 10 day locations within their area on an annual basis as a minimum

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Aptitude for computer systems, including experience in Microsoft Windows applications.

  • Aptitude and enthusiasm for teaching others and ability to speak on safety topics in a group setting.

  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.

  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and shifting priorities.

  • Ability to influence others and take the necessary actions to achieve the desired results.

  • Demonstrated ability to make good decisions and has sound judgment.

*Basic Required Qualifications: *

  • 4 year Degree in safety or a technical discipline required.

  • 10 years + in a Safety related field requiring ability to manage and supervise over a large geographic area.

  • Experience in chemical storage and distribution equipment design, operations and maintenance is preferred and / or highly desirable.

  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office and basic internet) required.

Working conditions:

EHS managers typically have heavy travel schedules, with exposure to hazardous or caustic chemicals and outside weather conditions, along with vehicles, moving equipment, mechanical parts and flammable materials, vibration and loud noise. The employee will be working in both office and external work environments including riding along with drivers performing customer pickups.
