Your Opportunity

Join a Top 10 global integrated design firm in our Texas Buildings practice that provides Architecture, Buildings Engineering, and Interior Design services with a long history and deep commitment to the education sector.

Our Houston office is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer / Team Lead to lead and grow our structural team and to provide exceptional structural design solutions for our clients. In this team lead role, you will be accountable for structural engineering excellence across the office. In addition, you will attract, grow and retain high quality staff and mentor future professionals and leaders in your team. Your Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with BC leadership on hiring and lead a team consisting of structural engineers, designers, and CAD/Revit production staff.

  • In collaboration with structural engineering leaders, responsible for managing the financial performance, quality control processes, and project delivery for Structural Engineering projects.

  • Responsible for large projects of high complexity

  • Advocates and inspires creativity, critical thought, and design excellence both internally and externally.

  • Fosters collaboration between offices while promoting and providing design vision and professional standards.

  • Seek exciting and challenging work and opportunities for team members - Understand team’s workload and complete forecasting

  • Inspire, manage, and retain a team of professionals, and attract new talent to the team

  • Evaluates, selects, specifies, and engineers all structural engineered systems or products for a project

  • In conjunction with others stakeholders, identify and forecast staff needs and assignments based on current and projected workload

  • In collaboration with senior team members, responsibility for structural design and overall management of projects either as part of a project team or independently

  • Engages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats

  • Utilizes BIM technologies in the development of three dimensional models of building’s structural systems and provides markups for junior engineers/designers

  • Prepares and revises documentation in various structural phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details

  • Leads project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors

  • Participates in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating

  • Leads the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents

  • Participates in constructability review

  • Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers

  • Leads and provides guidance in the development of new standards and specifications for the structural group

  • Develops project scope, budgets, and design approach for all size projects

  • Assists with the development of proposals for projects of varying size and complexity

  • Oversees and manages multiple projects

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Demonstrated ability and desire to work with, and contribute to, a larger team (previous leadership or people management experience, including project-related work, is highly desirable)

  • To produce design at a level that would be perceived externally as excellent.

  • Results-oriented attitude with the ability to excel in a multi-disciplinary environment

  • To check work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage team to meet project budget and schedule.

  • Scale process, design, and effort to various roles on the project, the needs of the project, and other conditions.

  • Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of structural design codes, standards, and applicable building codes

  • Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications

  • Strong knowledge of structural systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards

  • Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production

  • Participates and collaborates in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought

  • Thorough understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others

  • Strong leadership, communication and team building skills are essential for the candidate to meet the expectations of this position

  • Self-starter with a desire to succeed, enthusiastic, people-oriented demeanor and with a high degree of integrity

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit; Prefer experience with AutoCAD, Newforma, Component Design Software, Comprehensive Building Analysis Software, and Structure Finite Element Analysis such as RAM concept, Adapt Builder, and SAFE

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering & Licensed Professional Engineer. Minimum of 10 years of experience. LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred.
