Burns & McDonnell Lead Instrumentation & Controls Engineer - OnSite Energy & Power (Multiple Locations) in Raleigh, North Carolina
Description The OnSite Energy & Power team is looking for a Lead Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to support projects for distributed energy plants (central utility plants) for institutional and industrial clients, including electric, steam, chilled water, hot water, and cogeneration plants. The I&C Engineer will be able to work independently and as part of a diverse multi-disciplinary team performing the I&C engineering activities for small to medium control system projects for new or existing facilities. The I&C Engineer will be responsible for performing the following activities:
Assist in I&C studies, including site walkdown, scope development, stakeholder interviews, vendor selection, cost estimate development and develop written reports.
Support the development Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID's). Incorporating International Society of Automation (ISA) and/or client standards.
Support the development Mechanical and Electrical Equipment Specifications.
Development of Instrument Lists and Cable Schedules
Develop Instrument Procurement Specifications, ISA Data Sheets, Installation Details and Instrument Location Plans.
Develop Control System (DCS and/or PLC) Specifications and I/O lists.
Develop Control System (DCS and/or PLC) System Network Architecture, Logic and Graphics Diagrams.
Develop conceptual panel drawings and bill of materials.
Develop Control System (DCS and/or PLC) Control Narratives.
Develop I&C Connection/Loop Diagrams.
Develop Approved Vendors Lists, perform technical bid evaluations and review vendor submittals .
Assist in construction budgetary estimates, rough order of magnitude (ROM) and cost buildout activities. Experience with EPC projects desirable.
Coordinate with procurement to develop RFQ documentation.
Support Factory Acceptance Tests, and provide technical assistance during commissioning at project site.
Perform reviews of project construction submittals and responses to construction requests for information (RFIs).
Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering from accredited program required.
Minimum 3 years of related experience required.
Completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification or Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Attention to detail.
Ability to clearly communicate both verbal and written technical information.
Must be proficient in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, AutoCAD). Valid driver's license required.
In addition, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy. Ability to travel.
