Summary:

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Acts with integrity, honesty, and knowledge that promote the culture, values, and mission of UNC Health.

  • Maintains a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events to keep the store operating to standard and set a positive example for the shift team.

  • Develops positive relationships with the shift team by understanding and addressing individual motivation, needs, and concerns.

  • Anticipates customer and cafeteria needs by constantly evaluating the environment and customers for cues.

  • Executes cafeteria operations during scheduled shifts. Organizes opening and closing duties as assigned.

  • Assists with training by positively reinforcing successful performance and giving respectful and encouraging coaching as needed. Provides feedback to manager on partner performance during shift.

  • Creates a positive learning environment by providing clear, specific, timely, and respectful coaching and feedback to partners on shift to ensure operational excellence and improve partner performance.

  • Recognizes and reinforces individual and team accomplishments by using existing organizational tools and collaborating with the store manager to find new, creative, and effective methods of recognition.

  • Utilizes operational tools to achieve operational excellence during the shift.

  • Maintains or enhances the self-esteem of customers during transactions and tolerates negative events when conflicting priorities are present.

  • Effective oral communication skills, knowledge of the retail environment, strong interpersonal skills, ability to work as part of a team, and ability to build relationships.

  • Prepare and coach the preparation of foods to standard recipes or customized for customers, including recipe changes such as temperature, quantity of ingredients, and/or substituted ingredients.

  • Supervises staff in accordance with the Hospital's personnel policies and holds others accountable for the same. Schedules staff and is responsible for employee time and attendance, payroll, and other records as assigned.

  • Participates regularly in supervisory and other meetings and holds staff meetings as necessary and in accordance with departmental expectations.

  • Oversees cash handling procedures, ensuring accurate transactions and adherence to cash control policies as outlined in the cashier’s manual. Manages daily cash reconciliations and deposits.

  • Adheres to all departmental requirements for compliance with the hospital’s Safety Department.

  • Supervises menu boards and digital menu media, ensuring accurate and appealing presentation of menu items. Coordinates with marketing to update promotions and special offers.

  • Ensures computer literacy among staff, providing training on point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management software, and other relevant technology. Troubleshoots technical issues and liaises with IT support as needed.

  • Coordinates with suppliers for inventory management, ordering supplies and ingredients as necessary to maintain optimal stock levels. Monitors inventory usage and minimizes waste.

  • Assists in the maintenance of vendor products through merchandising efforts and assists in maintaining customer support activities in the dining areas including but not limited to preparing and serving food, tray preparation, restocking, adding ice to soda machines, brewing/transfer of coffee, and cleaning/sanitizing kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas.

  • Maintains the requirements for a sanitation Grade A by enforcing proper sanitation practices.

  • Marginal job functions include: 1) providing daily, weekly, or monthly cash register reports to the department as required through scheduling and 2) compiling and maintaining the financial documents necessary for the audit of sales receipts in a timely manner.

  • Records sales in the proper manner, completing transactions by receipt of cash or approved meal tickets and by check from approved clients.

  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance.

Preferences:

  • Prefer candidates who have computer skills to include MS Office and can learn new software quickly.

Other Information

Education Requirements:

High School diploma or GED

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

Remains current and compliant with ServSafe Manager Level Certification according to the statutes of the state of North Carolina

Professional Experience Requirements:

  • Two (2) years of food service experience

  • One (1) year of cash handling experience

  • One (1) year of customer service experience in a retail or restaurant environment

  • Six (6) months of experience delegating tasks to other employees and/or coordinating the tasks of two (2) or more employees
