HIGHER PAY: $49,158 - $86,026

The Challenge

We're looking for an experienced Engineering Specialist II to join our team to provide the most advanced technical work supporting engineers in functional areas, such as highway construction, construction inspection, engineering coordination, and construction traffic control.

In this role, you will:

  • Perform work involving an extremely wide range of decision making and use of judgment, including supervising and providing work direction to others.
  • Serve as lead inspector conducting independent complex inspections and supervising junior inspectors through at least one project inspector while performing complex inspections of roadway and structure construction processes and materials to assure compliance with contract agreements, standards, and specifications
  • Independently test and inspect the most complex or controversial roadway and structure construction work.
  • Resolve materials and methods compliance problems with contractors.
  • Oversee/perform inspections of major or complex structure construction projects
  • Train and instruct other technicians, including reviewing their work for accuracy and completeness.

What You Bring

  • Ability to obtain and maintain certifications required to perform material sampling and testing related to the role.
  • Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
  • Customer service experience related to solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
  • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
  • Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
  • Computer experience, including Microsoft Office and drafting software, laptops, iPads in HiCAMS Operations, SharePlus, and email.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.

  • Ability to understand, explain, and administer contracts, interpret plans, provisions and specifications, train other employees and plan, coordinate, and supervise work.
  • Solid verbal and written communications skills to communicate, establish, and maintain working relationships with coworkers, management, contractors, and the public.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures and on uneven terrain for extended periods.
  • Thorough knowledge and ability to use HiCAMS System to contract tracking applications.
  • Ability to accurately maintain daily work records.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as necessary.
  • Steel toed shoes.

Education and Experience

Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or Survey Technology, and

7+ years of progressive technician experience; or
