Radford University Assistant Director of Student Success and Retention in Radford, Virginia
Job Summary:
The Assistant Director of Student Success and Retention is a full-time professional position dedicated to persistence initiatives and overall student success. Reporting to Student Success and Retention leadership. Performs all duties necessary to plan, coordinate, and integrate activities that support and promote student success, retention, and graduation.
This position leads the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of a peer mentoring program, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and student needs. Oversees program logistics such as matching mentors and mentees, program design, and assessment of program effectiveness. Coordinates and monitors outreach plans and the hiring, training, and supervision of student support staff for peer interventions, including mentoring and coaching. Serves as a backup administrator for the Early Alert System. Assists with the implementation of a comprehensive CRM system, collaborating with stakeholders and ensuring alignment with institutional needs. Facilitates training for users by developing comprehensive resources and materials, conducting workshops, and offering tailored guidance to optimize system utilization.
Required Qualifications:
Candidate must have progressive professional experience in student affairs or higher education.
Knowledge and understanding of current retention issues and strategies in Higher Education.
Experience in developing programs and activities that encourage student success.
Demonstrated presentation and project management skills.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, customer service, and time management skills.
Demonstrated ability to make independent judgments, analyze and solve problems, manage multiple tasks, and work independently as a self-starter.
Ability to use current office software such as Microsoft Office.
Demonstrated ability to work empathetically with people from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience/knowledge working with Banner, DegreeWorks, eVA, Starfish or another student records software system.
Demonstrated ability to work with student support staff or inexperienced/first-time workers.
Experience working with first generation and at-risk student populations, developing and implementing retention strategies, as well as involvement with mentoring programs.
A self-starter with the ability to anticipate needs/gaps and plan solutions. Ability to exercise considerable independent and professional judgment.
Success coaching experience.
Prior experience with crisis management/interventions for students experiencing difficulty.
Experience in planning and implementing programming for new students, student and faculty engagement and persistence activities.
