Manulife's Investment Division runs Manulife’s General Fund on-balance sheets assets (GA) and through Manulife Investment Management Limited (MIM), handles assets for clients and investment funds in markets around the world. MIM also provides investment management services to affiliates’ retail clients through product offerings of Manulife and John Hancock. The division manages a broad range of investments including public and private bonds, public and private equities, mortgages, real estate, oil and gas, infrastructure, timberland, farmland and asset allocation strategies. The division has physical presence in key international financial centers, including Canada, the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, the United Kingdom, Australia and throughout South East Asia. We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced professional accountant to join the Investment Fund Reporting Team within Manulife’s Investment Division located in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze annual and interim financial statements for investment funds which include Statement of financial position, Statement of comprehensive income, statement of changes in net assets and schedule of investments

  • Preparing the financial statements including supporting documents within deadlines

  • Assist the team in completing the review and proof reading of financial statements

  • Participate fully as a member of the team, promote team effectiveness and contribute to a positive work environment

  • Provide recommendations on efficiencies, standards and improvements related to financial processes and/or systems

  • Be abreast with knowledge of accounting requirements for investment funds

How will you create impact?

Reporting to the Manager of Financial Reporting, Investment Division, the Financial Analyst position is responsible for preparing and reviewing quality financial statements for investment funds. The incumbent will require knowledge of accounting for investments and expertise of fund reporting including regulatory requirements NI 81-106.

What we are looking for

  • Open for Fresh Graduates of BS Accountancy/Accounting who is pursuing CPA licensure examination

  • 3+ years of experience in accounting

  • CPA accounting designation is a plus

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel

  • Experience with fund accounting systems a plus (e.g. Fund Suite ARC, MPower)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to effectively communicate findings and discrepancies

  • Easily work with Excel formulas such as: (index, sumif, pivot, lookups, conditional formulas, etc.)

  • Strong analytical and inquiry skills to understand finance and operational processes and controls

  • Ability to work independently and with teams at Toronto and Montreal locations

  • Work in an efficient manner and respect timeline

  • Ability to work as a team and be available to help colleagues
