Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Possession of a license and currently registered to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State; ANDBachelor’s Degree in nursing; ANDTwo years of professional clinical nursing experience in a hospital setting or health care facility.ORPossession of a license and currently registered to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State; ANDThirty credit hours in nursing, nursing education, public health, community health, health care administration, psychology or sociology beyond the education required for R.N. licensure. ANDThree years of professional clinical nursing experience in a hospital setting or health care facility.OTHER:This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you do need to meet the minimum qualifications of the title. If you are hired under the HELPS Program, you will be first be appointed as a temporary employee. In May 2024, if you are performing successfully in the position, your appointment will be changed from temporary to permanent non-competitive. Once you are in permanent status, your official probationary period will begin and you may take any promotion exam for which you are qualified.At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status.

Duties Description JOB DESCRIPTION:An Infection Control Nurse coordinates, directs and provides nursing services to equip the department to comply and establish an infection control program. The primary objectives of the Infection Control Nurse are to:Assure a high quality of care by developing policies and procedures supportive of an infection control program that eliminates risk of infection to clients, facility personnel, and visitors through daily surveillance and implementation of appropriate control measures.Teach infection control and isolation techniques, practices, and policies to employees at all levels.Identify areas demonstrating infection risk and initiate and maintain such programs to eliminate hazards of infection.Assist in educational and research programs related to epidemiology.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the Nursing Program Coordinator, the duties will include but will not be limited to:Maintaining close communication with supervisory personnel concerning infection problems and epidemiological hazards.Develop and conduct in-service education programs for all personnel to improve the knowledge and practice of infection control and epidemiology.Acts as the infection control liaison between all departments and medical services, Infection Control Committees, facility administration and community programs.Make periodic rounds in nursing and program units for the purpose of case findings and supervision of isolation techniques.Assist medical personnel in identifying carriers and tracing possible sources of infection and preventing transmission of disease.Notify physicians of individuals exposed to an infectious disease or a communicable disease.Assist in development and/or implementation of improved infection control measures.Review and revise the facility infection control manual as necessary.Maintain records of all individuals with infections.Maintain records on ongoing epidemiological programs and surveys.Compile clinical data and actively assists in research studies related to infection control.Review all pertinent microbiological data daily and advises appropriate personnel as necessary, regarding significant findings.Direct, control and maintain records of all environmental culturing and surveillance.Report and provide information required by City, County, or State health departments, the Centers for Disease Control, or other official bodies.Pre-employment ClearancesReview documents submitted by HR and provided feedback for clearance.Remain UTD with immunization requirements.Discuss changes/concerns on State Ops Nursing meetings. Update pre-employment immunization requirements/screening documents as needed.Coordinate with HR for smooth pre-employment screening processAdminister vaccines as needed.Utilize Mobile Health program.Respiratory Protection ProgramFunction as the supervisorEncourage DA3s to complete annual testing of all staff.Work with TD&T in getting NEOs medically evaluated and tested during orientation.Attend Central Office RPP meetings.Monitor and update Dawson Compliance.Quarterly meetings with DDSO on program.Order FIT testing supplies.Coordinate lending out of machines.Conduct in-person FIT testing demonstrations/trainings.Organize/maintain compliance of FIT testing records.Maintenance of Porta Count supplies.Monitor and update FIT test excel sheets.Collaborate with PPE coordinator.Send monthly data from Porta count machine/tablet to Central Office.Send out Porta Count machine for configuration/maintenance. Respiratory Viruses SeasonOrganize/arrange flu, RSV and COVID testing events.Collaborate with NYC DOH on positive cases.Track Flu/COVID cases.Update State Ops of current guidance.OtherMonthly NEO Infection Control Training.Administration of annual flu vaccines.Annual RN Orientation presentation.Monitoring/distribution of CPR masks/Blood Spill Kits.Communicate with medical/nursing dept. on adult immunization schedule.Update DDSO on infection control guidance from CO.Develop guidance for infection control matters (ex. Additional Comments ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:Posted hiring rate includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for PS&T Grade 22 ($79,928), an Increase Hiring Rate ($10,536), Geographic Pay Differential ($35,000).
