POSITION DETAILS

Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 25,000 students. More than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside of the United States, coming to LaGuardia from 136 countries and speaking forty-three heritage languages. More than half are first-generation college students. Sixty-nine percent live in Queens; the rest live in Brooklyn and beyond. Approximately two-thirds of our degree students receive financial aid. Reporting to the Associate Director of Recruitment, the Admissions Coordinator will support the day-to-day activities of the Admissions and Recruitment units within the department of Admissions.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assist with recruitment and registration of students;

• Assist with the reviewing and processing of student applications;

• Attend on and off campus recruitment events at high schools, CBO and other institutions, including Open Houses and community events;

• Coordinate the application process via CUNYfirst, which includes data entry of new admissions applications info CUNYfirst;

• Update data in CUNYfirst, and assist in the maintenance of freshman and transfer student files;

• Compile and provide recruitment reports for each activity conducted;

• Serve as a resource to students at workshops, advisement and registration; and provide tours and information sessions;

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other department staff, students and the public.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge and experience working in higher education;

• Specialization in computerized access databases;

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite;

• Experience with PeopleSoft (CUNYfirst);

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

• Bilingual;

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Coordinates efforts of admissions and/or enrollment offices.

  • Coordinates workshops, intake screenings, interviews and orientations for new students

  • Counsels prospective applicants on requirements and standards and provides general information on programs and services in person or by telephone, e-mail or letter; conducts follow up as needed

  • Assists in conducting open house sessions and orientations, including group sessions and programs at high schools and in the community at large

  • Assists with day-to-day administration and an admissions or enrollment office, including scheduling and preparing and distributing materials

  • Represents the Admission Office to the college's internal and external communities as directed

  • Maintains and updates program databases, lists and files to ensure completeness and accuracy

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
