INSTITUTE FOR SYSTEMS Research Associate I (Computational) in Queen Anne, Washington

The Kuchina lab is seeking a part-time, temporary Research Associate I (computational). This position conducts standard computational techniques, including data analysis, modeling, storage, and archival in internal and external repositories. This role also utilizes various computational techniques and procedures to collect and compile datasets in support of experiments. Essential Duties: Executes basic research plans and studies utilizing established scientific methods Compiles, processes, and analyzes data Manages data sharing according to privacy and ethics standards Keeps detailed records of observations in lab and electronic notebooks & prepares technical reports Collects, analyzes, and documents experimental results Informs senior staff of inconsistencies or problems with projects or experiments Supports development of computational modeling pipelines and experimental design Attends seminars/meetings to enhance knowledge of company objectives Supervisory Responsibilities: None Required Education, Skills & Experience: One or more year(s) of directly-related computational biology or bioinformatics work experience designing or implementing data analysis and modeling pipelines and developing/deploying software A Bachelor's degree in information science, immunology, biology, chemistry, microbiology, or related field in a life sciences discipline Ability to complete all required safety and regulatory training prior to starting work Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse population and range of personalities Adaptable to changing work requirements Demonstrated ability to independently plan and manage time and priorities A high degree of professional integrity Strong lab service orientation All ISB staff members are expected to have baseline technical skills and the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately over email, the intranet/forum, etc. Employees should be able to use Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint at a functional level. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with microbial and computational biology research Physical Demands: Frequently required to communicate with others using voice and hearing to exchange information. Frequently requires sitting for extended periods. Regularly requires standing and/or walking. Frequently requires repeating motions that may include hands, wrist, or fingers (e.g. using a computer keyboard); reaching with hands and arms. Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Occasionally works near machinery with moving mechanical parts. May occasionally require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision. Pay Range: $20.73 - 31.92 DOE Benefits: This position is not benefit eligible.
