The Environmental Services Manager position is responsible for effectively coordinating employees schedules, work assignments and performance expectations in order to comply with the goals and mission of the Environmental Services Department.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides leadership and guidance to departmental personnel.Schedules and assigns Environmental Services aides to work schedules as dictates by needs of the department including cycle cleaning, projects and special functions.Evaluates area of responsibility for floor work and coordinates work with Environmental Services aides to complete assignments.Interviews prospective Environmental Services aides and makes selection for hire.Works closely with new Environmental Services aides in training and development in Environmental Services cleaning practices, policies and procedures.Evaluates Environmental Services Aides for work quality, quantity and performance of work schedule, making adjustments when needed to insure consistent quality cleaning.Administers annual performance evaluations for Environmental Services aides.Works closely with department supervisors and employees to develop good communications and morale.Works closely with nursing units and other departments throughout the hospital and its affiliates to address their needs and resolve identified issues.Assists in maintaining in-service information for Environmental Services Staff for both educational mandatory and training needs.Works with employee relations as related to time off, sick time, staffing needs, etc.Holds monthly Environmental Services Department staff meetings.Ensures staff complete all mandatory training and other employment requirements..Assists in development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures and standards of work.Monitors department budget/forecast for the Environmental Services Department.Responsible for ensuring maintenance of appropriate inventory and timely and appropriate ordering of supplies.Handles special projects as assigned.Assists the Facilities Director in meeting compliance with JCAHO, Federal, State and Local regulations.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Sits for up to 1-3 hours/day; 1 hour at a time. Stands for 1-8 hours/day; 1-4 hours at a time. Walks for up to 7-8 hours/day; 1-4 hours at a time. Occasional handling. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. Occasional carrying up to 25 lbs; rarely up to 50 lbs. Occasional pushing and pulling up to 50 lbs; rarely up to 75 lbs. Occasionally stoop, bend, squat, kneel and reaches above shoulder level. Rarely climbs ladder up to 10 feet. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation and seeing as it relates to general and near vision.
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. Equivalency required.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 2 to 3 years’ experience in housekeeping in either a hospital or institution setting and 1 to 2 years supervisory experience in housekeeping preferred. Supervisor is subject to on call status for hospital or departmental emergencies, and performs other job duties as deemed necessary by department management.
