Primary Purpose of Job:

Our Environmental Services team within Stantec’s Global Design Centre in Pune provides strategic and practical solutions to Stantec’s global business with environmental management challenges. We are seeking to appoint Sustainability Professional to support Stantec’s growing international portfolio. Stantec provides advisory services in sustainability including net zero carbon management, climate change resilience, natural capital and social value to a range of clients. We need to build our team further to ensure we can continue to grow and lead in this important, exciting, and rapidly evolving area.

The Senior Engineer in Sustainability will work from the Pune Global design Center, with the potential to work with various clients across regions. This position offers the right person a fantastic opportunity to play a central role in delivering high quality services for clients in the water, energy, community development and transport sectors. You will have technical management experience and provision of specialist input to consultancy projects relating to sustainability, regulation, carbon management, life cycle analysis, climate change, natural and social capital, and resilience.

You will have opportunity to pursue new business opportunities with private and public sector clients in growth sectors, as well as to lead project teams, including allocating workload, checking and reviewing outputs, evaluating progress against time and budget, as well as mentoring junior staff and aiding their career development. You will have excellent bid preparation, report writing and presentation skills.

Reporting to the Environmental Services Leader, you will engage in multiple facets of environmental and sustainability consulting, and work with industry leading professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects within integrated global teams. Key Accountabilities:

  • Be responsible for adhering to Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work.

  • Working within integrated international teams on multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Learn and apply new technical skills for the design, planning, and execution of environment and sustainability projects.

  • Work as part of small and large teams both in person and remotely.

  • Support project budgeting and scheduling.

  • Prepare reports, workplans and proposals using Stantec templates and following the quality standards.

  • Participate in business development activities, including preparing proposals and building relationships with current and prospective clients.

  • Interact and interface with clients and environmental regulators where appropriate.

  • Assist in analyzing current and emerging technical issues.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Relevant degree qualification in engineering, environmental sciences, or economics. Master’s degree preferred.

  • At least 5-10 years’ experience in a similar or related role, perhaps in a consultancy position or with a private, public or third sector organization.

  • Existing professional registration or ability to work towards a professional registration.

  • Proven ability to understand client needs, think creatively and provide pragmatic advice to meet client needs for sustainable solutions – within time and cost constraints.

  • Ability to work across a multidisciplinary team, forge new working relationships with clients and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the range of environmental, social, economic, and regulatory issues pertinent to sustainable infrastructure.

  • Good commercial awareness, with some experience of managing contracts.

  • Experience of leading a consultancy and/or multi-disciplinary team

  • Experience in the completion of some or all the following:- Experience of sustainable development policy, practice and performance measurement

  • Experience and understanding of carbon accounting, including principles of PAS2080

  • Knowledge or good understanding of GIS, data analytics and visualisation, app development

  • Experience of strategic environmental assessment, sustainability appraisal

  • Understanding of climate change impacts, asset risk assessment and adaptation
