Postdoctoral Research Associate Available Title(s): 306-YN_FACULTY - Postdoctoral Research Associate Business Title: Postdoctoral Research Associate Employee Type: Faculty (+) (Fixed Term) Time Type: Full time Position Term: 12 Month Position Details: Post Doc in Skeletal Muscle Biophysics Modeling The Laboratories of Bert Tanner and David Lin at Washington State University, Pullman, WA, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher appointment in the area of skeletal muscle biophysics and mechanics. The researchers investigate the biophysics of skeletal muscle contractile processes with the aim of understanding how mechanical output from muscle during movement is optimized through its interactions with connective tissue and skeletal structures. The postdoctoral researcher will participate in ongoing and new studies and will be expected to participate in the NSF-funded project entitled, "Elucidating multi-scale contractile and morphological mechanisms that empower skeletal muscle to be a better motor." Computational biophysics-based modelling experience is highly desirable for this position. The postdoctoral researcher will interact closely with cross-disciplinary colleagues spanning Bioengineering, Kinesiology, and Neuroscience, including members of the Washington Center for Muscle Biology. Other expectations include: writing manuscripts, presenting at lab meetings, journal club, seminars, and professional conferences. In addition, the postdoctoral scholar will have the opportunity to help graduate and undergraduate students develop their research interests and skills in a mentoring role. The appointment is initially for one year, with the potential for re-appointment in a second year. The postdoctoral position is open for appointment immediately, but we can be somewhat flexible on the start date. Required Qualifications: • PhD degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, biophysics, computer science, kinesiology, or a related field. • Experience in biophysics research with a strong computational background, or those with a background in the physical sciences/engineering interested in developing expertise in biophysics and movement science. Preferred Qualifications: • Strong technical skills, including programming, computational modeling, and mechanics, are highly desirable.
