Professional Position Details: Summary of Duties: The basic function of this position is to recruit, hire, train, evaluate, dismiss, and develop lifeguard staff that will support University Recreation, College of Education, and Athletics for three campus aquatic facilities. This position will be responsible for development of aquatic programming. Required Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in relevant field (Business, Recreation, Sport Management, Higher Education or related field) and three (3) years of experience directly related to the specialty area to include a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. • Certification by American Red Cross in Lifeguard Training and Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) • Minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience. • Ability to collaborate effectively as a member of a goal-oriented team. • Knowledge of Windows based computer system and Microsoft applications. Preferred Qualifications: • Master's Degree in a related field. • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership/management skills. • Demonstrated success in personnel training and supervision. • Four or more years of progressively responsible relevant professional experience. • Experience in higher education recreation or student service setting. • Experience in the development and implementation of extensive staff training programs. • Experience in the development and management of budgets. • Experience in the management and operations of special events. • Current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operation (AFO). • Current Lifeguard Instructor Trainer and/or Water Safety Instructor Trainer Certification. • NIRSA membership and/or involvement. • Experience working or living among other cultures; a track record of working with and/or for under-served and under-represented populations.
