Provo City is looking for high-performing, responsible individuals to perform in the role of lifeguard, water safety/swimming instructor, and related capacities for the Aquatics Division of the Provo City Recreation Center.

Job Details

Pay Rate: Lifeguard starts at $12.00 per hour. Swim Instructors start at $13.00. Water Aerobic Instructors start at $15.00.

Successful performers are eligible for a $0.50 per hour increase every 6 months for up to 2 years. We also pay a specialty rate for events outside of normal job hours.

Essential Duties:

• Lifeguard and instruct water safety courses at the Provo Recreation Center.

• Maintain a visual watch of facility activities and swimmers.

• Provide first aid.

• Rescue swimmers/patrons when necessary.

• Teach Red Cross sanctioned water safety and swimming classes.

• Assist staff members as needed and perform other related work as required .

Minimum Requirements: NOTE: Provo will train uncertified candidates if selected for hire.

• A current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification.

• A current American Red Cross WSI Certification or equivalent AND/OR teaching swim experience (for Swim Instructor) .

• Preference given to applicants with Advancing Lifesaving Certification.

• Applicants must be 16 years of age (or 15 with restrictions ) at time of appointment.

Hours: Up to 25 hours per week, flexible during facility hours of operation . Some weekend shifts are required. Physical/Environmental Factors: This position requires: physical strength and agility to perform the work, including, rescuing, standing, bending, and swimming during instruction and safety assistance; the ability to work in various weather conditions; work with the public in potentially stressful situations; and regular exposure to the sun and pool chemicals.

Pre-employment Testing: Prior to appointment, applicant will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
