This is an open recruitment for Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics that are interested in becoming Firefighters with Provo City Fire Department. Testing will be conducted Winter 2025 with actual dates forthcoming.

Provo Fire & Rescue enjoys a cohesive and positive work environment with a strong desire to help each other succeed. The department has a state-of-the-art Heavy Rescue truck, two ladder trucks, two fire engines, five medic ambulances, and three new Type 6 brush trucks. The department shows its commitment to fire-and-life-safety training by hosting monthly live fire, extrication, and EMS training. The facilities have also been upgraded. Provo Fire just moved into the new public safety administration building, rebuilt Station 2 in 2020, remodeled two other stations, and are in the process of building a new Station 1.

What is the compensation package?

Annualized Rates: EMT/FF (G25) $51,706 - $67,843

Medic/FF (G28, G30, G32) $61,352 - $95,462

  • Fight fires by placing, connecting, and advancing hoses.

  • Operate pumps, nozzles, ladders, hydrants, extinguishers, generators, and other specialized firefighting equipment and apparatus.

  • Search for and rescue victims from burning buildings, vehicles, or other structures and locations.

  • Assess victims and determine emergency medical treatment needed at incidents.

  • Handle a wide variety of emergency situations.

  • Provide medical treatment.

  • Transport, lift, restrain or otherwise move patients.

  • Report victim assessments and conditions to medical personnel.

  • Participate in drills and training.

  • Restock ambulance supplies and maintain supply inventory during shifts.

  • Assist other staff and perform other related duties as required.

What are the minimum qualifications?

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

  • Basic EMT license (Utah Office of Emergency Medical Services and Preparedness) OR Current Paramedic license for Medic Class.

  • Valid, Utah Driver License.

  • Must be 18 years of age.

  • Must obtain Firefighter I and II certifications within 6 months of hire ( NFPA and Utah Fire and Rescue Academy standards) .

  • Note: Employees of this classification must maintain required certifications to retain position.

What is the selection process?

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on DATE TBD (based on testing date). Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
