Brown University Data Management Specialist in Providence, Rhode Island
Job Description:
The Center for Gerontology & Health Care Research is seeking a data management specialist. This position will develop, execute, and maintain core data management services for large-scale, data-intensive research within the Center for Gerontology & Health Care Research (CGHCR) at Brown University. This position will assist the Director Information Services across a range of data management activities serving faculty, staff and trainees. This position works with sensitive data under the supervision of the Director.
The position will support managing sensitive and confidential electronic data and ensure accuracy of data. The position will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance, implementation and support of data management, assessment, and instruction that requires data entry.
The ideal candidate will be a quick and eager learner; be flexible, detail-oriented, organized, service-oriented, and resourceful; have excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills; and have specific experience and expertise in research projects programming and utilizing survey software (e.g., REDCap, Qualtrics), statistical software (e.g., SAS, Stata, R), relational database management systems (e.g., Access, SQL), Windows infrastructure (file systems, security), and software support.
Education and Experience
Master’s degree in computer related field and 3+ years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience managing a variety of types of human subject’s data (both primary and secondary data), including study participant location and contact data
Experience creating and maintaining database and participant tracking systems
Strong software proficiency required (SAS required; Stata, R, Python helpful; software development experience required) with willingness to learn and utilize new software applications as needed
Strong attention to detail, high level of organization required
Job Competencies

Effective at communicating with audiences whose statistical and technical backgrounds vary widely
Efficient time management skills
Knowledge of public health research; research study design; participant location, recruitment, and retention

Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment
This is a fixed term position with a current end date of June 30, 2026, which may be extended based upon available funding.
