SRI International has an immediate opening for a Research and Field-Test Engineer - Mid Career with experience in Electronics/Physics/Sensor development within the Advanced Technology and Systems Division, to support a variety of activities from cyber-physical systems to quantum sensing.

ATSD performs research and development across a wide range of disciplines from novel materials development to mixed signal integrated circuits, spanning design to implementation of advanced optical, quantum, radar, and imaging systems, transitioning technology from basic R&D to fieldable prototypes. We conduct this R&D for a wide variety of US government clients with applications ranging from basic scientific exploration to national security.

This is an on-site position in Princeton, NJ.

The researcher will be part of a team of applied physicists and engineers, working on R&D projects to realize proof-of-concept demonstrations for government and commercial customers. A motivated and driven researcher will have opportunities to work across the full span of design, implementation, and testing of advanced prototype systems based on quantum sensor technology. This position relies heavily on abilities to work in test environments with all levels of stake holders, solve problems rapidly, and enjoy open-ended technical challenges.

This position requires the ability to lead in identifying and managing tasks, and that ability to tackle complex problems as they arise. They should contribute at the individual level with guidance from more senior group members, while also working and guiding junior team members.

Duties include:

Data collection and analysis
• Lead test events, including developing test plans, logistics planning, and writing test reports
• System design, integration, and testing
• Field testing and measurement
• Engagement with end users and stake holders within the DoD community
• Communication with customers, including formal presentations and reports
• Domestic and International travel will be required to support field testing (25%)

• BS with 5+ years experience or MS with 3+ years experience in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Physics or other similar disciplines
• U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain/maintain/transfer a DOD TS Security Clearance is required

Skills and experience may include the following:

• Competence in a lab with test/measurement equipment
• Programming for analysis, simulation, and instrumentation (MATLAB, C/C++, Python, COMSOL)
• Multi-sensor integration and control; digital and analog signal processing and filtering
• Technical knowledge of electrical engineering principles (electronics, circuits, and electromagnetics)
• Create test plans, run test events, in field diagnostics and repair, and generate test reports
• Physical and mechanical intuition
• Hardware design and debugging
• Lead in identifying tasks and managing progress. Work with junior team members in solving technical challenges

The salary range is: $98,631.00-$130,689.00. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles.
