Manufacturing Test Engineer – Princeton, IL

We are seeking a self-motivated multi-disciplinary HW test engineer to define, design, implement, and continuously improve MFG test systems at LCN Door Controls. As a Test Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and performance of our Door Control products and its sub-assemblies. Sound engineering fundamentals are required, and it is expected that the engineer can complete all daily tasks with limited support or coaching.

What You Will Do:

  • Responsible for the preparation of designs, layouts, and estimates for the installation and sustenance of electromechanical test equipment in the plant.

  • Work with MFG, HW, FW and SW infrastructure teams to integrate test stations into MFG process and internal test framework and develop test procedures.

  • Implement and maintain process controls through advanced quality planning techniques (FMEA, key characteristics management, mistake proofing, etc.).

  • Come up with GR&R and station audit plans to ensure test station health is optimal for MFG.

  • Proactively identify test related issues through build cycles and drive for timely resolution

  • Develop and maintain all relevant process documentation (ie. routings, standard work, work instructions, setup sheets, etc.) to ensure accuracy.

  • Work on projects to implement, improve, sustain End of line testing of Door control sub-assemblies.

  • Initiate and manage productivity and cost savings projects related to testing processes

  • Prepare capital expenditure requisitions and manage the implementation of capital equipment projects.

  • Prepare and coordinate the implementation schedule for major projects and process changes.

  • Lead and support relevant automation initiatives in the plant

  • Assist Purchasing and Quality Assurance in qualifying suppliers for new product or product changes.

  • Research, evaluate, justify, and recommend capital equipment for operations.

  • Stay current with state-of-the art technologies and equipment.

  • Must be familiar with Industrial protocols, Software programming, Electronics (Digital/Analog) Instrumentation, Sensors, Measurement Devices commonly used in Manufacturing Test systems.

  • Familiarity with RS Logix 5000, Studio 5000, NI Test stand, AutoCAD, PTC Creo Suite, MS Office Suite (excel, word, power point) softwares is preferred.

  • Experience of working with PLC programming and wiring, cobots or robots is preferred.

  • Experience with setting up calibration of Test systems, interaction with HW, FW teams during NPI stage is preferred.

  • Should possess working knowledge of vision systems, motion controllers and actuators used in electromechanical systems.

  • Ability to debug from system down to component level. Should be able to understand schematics and be comfortable using common lab equipment.

  • Ability to analyze data to investigate test failures.

  • Must have experience in deploying and supporting manufacturing test software.

  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing and solving complex problems.

  • Solid written and verbal communication as well as conflict resolution skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and in independent situations, and exercise good judgment to reach sound conclusions.

  • Must be organized, detail oriented and able to think designs through completely.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • 4-year Engineering degree in Electrical / Electronics / is preferred.

  • 4-year EET, MET, Automation, Controls, Instrumentation or similar technology degrees are acceptable with relevant work experience

  • 3-5 years’ experience working with electro-mechanical MFG test systems
