The State Highway Administration (SHA) is seeking to fill an executive service position as an Assistant District Engineer- Construction (Administrator VII). This position is open to anyone who meets the preferred qualifications listed below.
Nature of Work: This position manages, directs and coordinates the SHA Highway and Bridge Construction Program for Metropolitan District 3 – Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties. This position provides leadership to Area Engineers, Office Engineers, administrative and consultant support staff for federal highway funded county road/bridge projects.

Qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Six (6) years of experience in administrative staff or professional work. Three (3) years of experience must have involved the administration, development or oversight of consultant engineering contracts and/or contracts related to roadway construction.
Notes:
Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
Candidates may substitute the possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
Candidates may substitute the possession of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher-ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Licenses & Certifications
Possession of a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the state of Maryland with less than four (4) points. (This position will be assigned a state car)

Candidates in this position are required to monitor nighttime construction operations and/or to respond to emergency situations. Candidates must be reachable by phone 24/7.
