In this leadership role, the candidate will be responsible for shaping Azure Data-Center Architecture with particular focus on RAS and Telemetry capabilities of Microsoft's future Si components. Microsoft operates one of the largest fleets of computing systems in the world, comprising millions of heterogenous servers across hundreds of globally distributed data centers. Hardware Reliability, Availability, Serviceability, and Telemetry features are critically important to operating Microsoft's fleet at-scale with high availability and efficiency. Continuous hardware innovation is needed to stay ahead of the effects of accelerating scale, increasingly unreliable Si manufacturing, increasing integration, and evolution of form factors.
Lead Full-Stack Architecture Innovations for Azure
Lead RAS and Telemetry domains across all stages of Si research and development.
Collaborate with customer teams within Microsoft - cloud service businesses, OS/Hyper-V software, hardware infrastructure management - to identify needs and prioritize opportunities for new hardware features.
Collaborate with partner teams - platform architects, Si design engineers, system software developers - to turn feature requests into end-to-end solutions for Microsoft Si components that deliver business value through improvements in interruption rates, downtime, and part replacement.
Monitor and adapt to research, industry, and technology trends affecting at-scale operation of future data centers.
The ideal candidate brings a mixture of theoretical and product-based experience in the RAS and Telemetry domains, as well as knowledge of related areas such as BIOS and system software.
MS or Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent experience
8+ years of experience in CPU product development and/or support role(s)
Strong background in Server SOC and System Architecture
Extensive familiarity with industry standard RAS, telemetry, and QoS techniques
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
