General Summary:

As Senior Paralegal, Investments, you would be a member of the Transactions Practice team in Unum’s Law Department, assisting the attorneys and paralegals who provide legal support to Unum’s investment analysts, who manage an investment portfolio of over $50 billion. We are seeking a bright individual with strong communication skills to join a high-functioning and cohesive team that works on complex investment transactions. The successful candidate must be able to interact with co-workers and other businesspeople in a professional, approachable manner, be independent and motivated and embrace ownership of day-to-day responsibilities.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages a high volume of fast-paced critical work, requiring appropriate attention to detail, prioritization and coordination.

  • Locates information for attorneys and other internal and external stakeholders.

  • Reviews, analyzes, summarizes and organizes documents as needed.

  • Prepares drafts of legal documents.

  • Ensures that legal documentation is processed in compliance with legal and organizational requirements.

  • Assists with large projects and assists other paralegals with their workload, as necessary.

  • Conducts legal research and analysis as assigned.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports the attorneys who work on investments in secured and unsecured domestic and foreign private placement debt and equity investments, commercial mortgage loans, derivative transactions and public bonds.

  • Communicates with members of internal departments and outside parties to ensure effective and efficient closings, fundings, and delivery of information and documents related to investments.

  • Prepares and assists with documentation for closing and post-closing requirements.

  • Completes drafts of investor questionnaires and subscription documents for equity investments.

  • Manages a database of form documents.

  • Manages checklists and oversees processes related to investments documentation.

Job Specifications

  • High school diploma

  • A minimum of some paralegal or law school courses or five (5) years of paralegal experience

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal relations skills

  • Strong computer and research skills

  • Proficiency in digital technology including document management systems

  • Strong judgment

  • Ability to mentor and/or train individuals

  • Ability to work on multiple matters/projects simultaneously

  • Prior experience with commercial mortgage lending, private placement debt or private equity transactions is preferred

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$45,600.00-$82,100.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
