The Mechanical Trades Manager position will supervise the mechanical operations trade for the Portland and Gorham USM campuses by assigning and developing work orders and projects, monitoring assigned budget, and coordinating services with other University departments. The successful candidate for this position will understand the full scope of the mechanical trades, along with supervisory principles and practices to effectively supervise and evaluate staff, and manage operations work on USM campuses.

Essential functions for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Supervises mechanical trades staff- HVAC and Plumbing trades.

  • Coordinates department activities which include determining mechanical maintenance needs, preparing work orders, and/or performing related duties on USM Portland and Gorham campuses.

  • Prepares and maintains a variety of operational records, logs, reports, and/or related documents.

  • Periodically performs duties of Mechanical Specialist.

  • Works under minimal supervision, typically provided with general goals and objectives within assigned areas.

  • Managing the purchasing of materials and supplies, overseeing supplier contracts

This is a full-time position with a starting rate of $30.13 per hour. Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) with sufficient experience to obtain appropriate certification or license AND seven years of related mechanical and supervisory/management experience.

  • Valid State of Maine licensure/certification in one or multiple Mechanical trade(s), or ability to obtain. (Examples: Maine Boiler Operator’s license, Plumbing license, and/or Fuel Oil and Gas Technician license/certification(s).

  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
