Jr. Network and Systems Engineer
Requirements
- Associates degree in Information Technology or related field from an accredited Junior College or Technical School.
- One (1) year professional experience in computer engineering, computer networking, information technology or systems administration, OR
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- CompTIA Server+ required within 6 months of hire
- CompTIA Network+ preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of computer hardware, software, networking and systems administration
- Knowledge of Microsoft Server 2012 and 2016
- Knowledge of Microsoft Azure Active Directory and Office365 administration
- Skilled in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
- Read, analyze and interpret work related documents
- Communication skills, both orally and in writing
POSITION OBJECTIVES
This position provides general technical administration, management, and troubleshooting related to enterprise networking and server based operating systems and applications. Responsible for providing tier 1 level support for all networking and systems based issues reported to Help Desk. Acts in a backup capacity when needed to Systems Administrator and Network Administrator. Supervision is general, provided by the Systems Administrator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Installs and configures computer network equipment to include switches, routers, wireless access points and VPNs
- Installs, configures, administers and troubleshoots servers and associated hardware, applications, services and settings
- Provides network and server support with a variety of operating systems including Microsoft and Linux based
- Configures, administers, and troubleshoots data backup systems and ensures backups are replicated properly
- Configures, administers and troubleshoots Microsoft Office365 and Microsoft Azure Active Directory
- Responds to and resolves help desk requests, escalates requests to systems administrator and/or Network Administrator as required
- Serves as back up to systems administrator and network administrator as required
- Performs related work as required. These additional duties may be representative of tasks typically performed by those in a lesser or more advanced job grade.
This position is part of the Citys Emergency Management Team and, as such, shall be expected to perform all duties that are assigned during an emergency management operation.

- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to very cold temperatures and risk of electrical shock.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but is occasionally loud in the computer room.
