Position Summary:
Responsible for taking on a variety of administrative tasks that support nursing unit operations and the delivery of effective and efficient services to meet the needs of patients and families. This includes establishing and maintaining efficient communication, accurate data entry, maintaining inventory of identified forms and supplies, and other support activities. Provides health care for patients under the direction of a nurse. Assists patients under their care with day-to-day tasks, playing a vital support role.
Responsibilities:
Helps patients by responding to intercom requests; obtaining needed services from nurses, licensed practical nurses, physicians, aides, and other hospital personnel.
Performs varied administrative tasks such as answering the phone, greeting visitors, maintaining department logs & reports, scheduling appointments, typing, filing, copying, faxing and ordering office supplies and equipment supplies to ensure the functionality and coordination of the department’s activities.
Performs a variety of computer/data entry functions to support patient care including establishing and maintaining patient record; may enter nursing and physician notes and orders; handling the majority of a patient's paperwork, such as discharge, admission, and personal information forms.
Provides physical support for patients with daily activities and personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, getting out of bed, using the toilet, walking, standing or exercising.
Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other policies and protocols.
Provides for admission and discharge needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
State Certified Nursing Assistant or 6 months experience
One (1) year prior unit assistant or front medical office secretarial experience unless graduate of a relevant training program.
One (1) month of job-related experience and/or training.
BLS certification
Preferred:
Successful completion of a health unit coordinator course.
Associate degree in related field.
