Sr. Manager Laser/Cutting Department Job Position

We need your talent and leadership to help us accomplish our mission.  This position is responsible for day-to-day operation and managing production scheduling requirements of the Laser Production Department. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) managing distribution of workload between machines, generating cut files, and ensuring on-time completion of work/sales orders.  This role also includes the continued growth of the Laser Cutting department with enhanced and continued technology enhancements.  We perform meaningful work that impacts the lives of those who risk it all to save ours.

Major Responsibilities   

Laser Cutting/Gerber Cutting Operation                                                                                                                     

  • Safely operate and tend to automatic laser cutting machines to high degree of proficiency when required.

  • Cut and inspect textiles/materials for OEM channel customers/opportunities and ensure quality material is selected and adequately packaged.

  • Demonstrate proficient knowledge of textiles/materials used in production to ensure proper/accurate identification.

  • Able to move raw materials safely and efficiently by acquiring advanced material handling equipment to designated area.

  • Maintain and ensure sufficient stock levels are present in Laser Production department to support workload.

  • Read, understand and correct errors in work orders, Bills of Material, Build Assemblies and Operations Routing Forms Production Orders where needed.

  • Closely follow and ensure that all cutting, and quality standards, processes and procedures are being adhered to.

  • Plan and operate all cutting activity with Gerber Z1 cutter.

    Production Planning/Management

  • Demonstrate proficiency in CorelDraw, Adobe Illustrator, as well as multiple other production software suites.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics BC or similar ERP system.

  • Identify/formulate/present potential solutions to improve material yields to Product Development when necessary.

  • Identify product quality issues (raw goods and cut goods) using QMS/PDCA processes to determine/execute solutions; communicate with adjacent departments where needed.

  • Create/update General and Specific Work Instructions as required.

  • Provide accurate production lead times as needed to Production Planning/Purchasing based on current/scheduled demands and capacity.

  • Manage inbound work and demand based on available machine capacity and work order/sales order due dates.

  • Works closely with Production Planning/Purchasing to fill available capacity/ensure minimal machine downtime and check for inbound work opportunities.

  • Works with Sales/Customer Service to share information regarding open OEM channel sales order status and check for inbound OEM channel work opportunities.

  • Manage all OEM channel back panel sales orders to ensure 100% on-time delivery.

    Department Management/Multi-Team Tasks

  • Inspect and standardize product drawings for Laser Production and Quality Control use; work with Product Development where required to identify and solve problems.

  • Work in conjunction with Sewing Production, Quality Assurance and Product Development to review/identify products and components to support production process improvements, up to/including new pattern design.

  • Generate/design cut patterns for production requirements where necessary, and ensure patterns result in finished products that match Fit/Form/Function standards.

  • Follow/support 6S initiatives and comply with all safety standards; develop/execute improvements where necessary.

  • Develop scorecard KPIs and goals/targets for department and personnel (where applicable)

    Education and Experience

     

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, logistics, materials management, industrial technology or related field is preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience in progressively responsible management roles

  • Proven ability to develop and implement effective business strategies.

  • Demonstrated leadership and team building skills.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Flexible and adaptable

  • Ability to read and speak English.
