Trinity Health Satellite Lab Assist II - Full Time - Days-1 in Pontiac, Michigan

Description:

Objectives: Responsible for performing various technical and non-technical tasks in a non-hospital based office, including all aspects of specimen collection, registration of patients into hospital information system, performing electrocardiograms and related routine office practices.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Education, Licensure / Certification and Experience Required.

A. Education

High school diploma or GED.

B. Licensure / Certification

Phlebotomy Certification preferred.

Current Heart Saver (HS) certification.

C Special Skill / Aptitudes

Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of

hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.

Type 35 wpm with emphasis on accuracy.

Knowledge of medical terminology desirable.

Familiarity with common medical billing procedures desirable.

D. Experience

A minimum of one year previous phlebotomy experience required.

Successful completion of EKG program or equivalent experience desirable.

Duties / Responsibilities:

1 Collect blood samples using appropriate phlebotomy technique.

2 Schedule glucose tolerance tests and coordinate testing to include collection of fasting glucose,

administration of glucola, and completion of timed venipuncture's.

3 Perform glucose testing on-site using a glucometer.

4 Prepare specimens as required for testing, including centrifugation, freezing serum, etc.

5 Answer all incoming phone calls and use proper telephone etiquette.

6 Maintain adequate supplies on-site in satellite location.

7 Verify report completeness of all testing requested from the satellite location.

8 Sort and mail reports.

9 Register patients into hospital information system (or collect patient information for retrospective

registration).

10 Perform EKG on-site as scheduled.

11 Maintain patient log of all tests ordered.

12 Maintain equipment and work area in a clean, professional manner.

13 Collect throat cultures.

• In accordance with unit or departmental practice, assists with tracking and monitoring of equipment assigned to the unit. Requests services for maintaining equipment as needed.

• In accordance with unit or departmental practice, proficient with the electronic health records for documentation, assessment, and care management, performing these activities concurrently with provision of care throughout the shift.
