United States Fleet Forces Command PHYSICAL SCIENTIST TECHNICIAN in Point Loma Complex, California

GS-4: 40,288 - 52,370 GS-5: 45,075 - 58,594 GS-6: 50,246 - 65,322 Responsibilities You will serve as a Physical Science Technician in the Radiological Monitoring Division, Radiological Control Office. You will serve as a major radiological control representative in "dry run" planning, practice, or "mock-up" session in preparation for major repairs and overhaul during refueling operations. You will take charge of response to radiation related emergencies and incidents until replaced by a senior radiological control supervisor or manager. You will assure adherence to radiological control requirements for assignments which involve numerous processes in several high-skill level trades: e.g., pipefitting, welding, machining and rigging, in nuclear powered ships of different designs. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-4: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: *Experience assisting with reviewing local radiological control practices and procedures to include determining deficiencies in the actions. *Experience assisting with applying technical application of radiological principles, techniques, and methodologies of surveillance necessary to control deviations from proper work processes and procedures. GS-5: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: *Experience assisting with reviewing local radiological control practices and procedures to include determining deficiencies in the actions. *Experience assisting with applying technical application of radiological principles, techniques, and methodologies of surveillance necessary to control deviations from proper work processes and procedures. GS-6: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: *Experience assisting with utilizing radiation survey to implement radiation control requirements in assigned ship or shipyard area(s). *Experience assisting with utilizing ship and shipyard layout (including location of safety and emergency equipment, drain water and sewage systems, harbor, contaminated equipment, and radiation sources) to plan ways to control possible incidents. *Experience understanding ventilation, detection, filtration, and containment material, equipment, and systems to assure adequacy of various standard containment and ventilation systems and procedures. *Experience assisting with interpreting work plans to detect deviations from approved procedures and assure compliance with radiological safety requirements. Education Applicants may substitute the following level of education for the required general and/or specialized experience: GS-4: Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics. GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of physical science, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics. GS-6: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position.
