The Opportunity
We have an opportunity for the role of Technician I, Extrusion for our Electrophysiology (EP) division based out in Plymouth, MN.
About Abbott’s EP Business: In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.
As a Technician I, Extrusion, you'll be providing manufacturing and engineering support to the extrusion operations.
Shift:
Monday to Thursday
5:00 am-3:30 pm
WHAT YOU DO
This role handles order fulfillment, chain of custody form printing, inbound, and inventory control.
Leading a cross-functional team, the position will also be responsible for establishing a work environment that emphasizes personnel safety, especially in light of operating heavy material handling equipment, company vehicles and handling potentially hazardous materials.
Establish a work environment that emphasizes inventory accuracy.
Supervise cycle count activities and physical inventory counts.
Ensure timely and accurate receipts of purchased materials and returned goods. Establish process parameters for new, experimental, and R&D products.
Elevate productivity and quality concerns to appropriate resources.
Lead initiatives for scrap reduction, cycle time reduction, setup reduction, and continuous improvement.
Order production tooling and supplies.
Contact external resources such as manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, or equipment support services when necessary.
Build effective working relationships with operators, group leads, and department support.
Perform tear-downs and set-ups for extruders and co-extruders.
Maintain extruders with established cycle times and process parameters.
Read and understand tooling prints, art prints, processes, and documentation.
Accurately complete documentation.
Conduct precise manufacturing parts inspections.
Use quality equipment such as gauges, tooling scopes, micrometers, and rulers effectively.
Diagnose and troubleshoot basic processing errors (e.g., O.D., I.D., ovality, concentricity, FM).
Understand plastic material properties and their impact on quality and processes.
Perform basic maintenance on extruders and auxiliary equipment (e.g., dryers, melt filters, blow-off tables, cutters, pullers).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Required
High school diploma or GED required.
0-2 years of experience in the field.
Preferred
2-year technical degree in plastics technology.
Previous relevant experience, preferably in the medical device industry.
Familiarity with GMP, ISO, and FDA-controlled environments.
Proficient in computer use, data analysis, and report writing.
Experience in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model.
Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.

The base pay for this position is $18.70 – $37.40 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
