Job Description

Role Summary

The Prototype Engineer is the technical lead and liaison between prototype operations, suppliers, engineering, quality, and manufacturing. This role ensures that prototypes are produced, tested, and inspected according to Bosch and customer requirements, following all our internal directives to ensure the quality of the samples.

Tasks

  • Performs evaluation and understanding of customer technical requirements for prototype steering gears

  • Main point of contact for the ENG (engineering) organization for technical questions during the review of requirements, assembly and testing processes

  • Leads and coordinates discussions with ENG for feasibility of the tests required to be performed in the sample orders as well as ensure all testing parameters are released for testing phase

  • Consolidates product requirements such as drawings, specifications, CAD images, tooling/fixture requirements for assembly, limit sample requirements, specific customer requests to create the assembly instruction

  • Identifies tooling, equipment, consumables (grease, liquids seal, cleaners/surface prep, etc.) required for assembly including the design of tools to support the assembly and testing processes

  • Leads troubleshooting /problem solving of Gear assembly/building issues and testing problems/failures

  • Supports the product and components quality evaluation before final release of the product to internal and external customers

  • With support of Quality Assurance associate, develops and maintains build documentation and processes (Technical Checklist, Control Plan, Build instructions/process, QS (Quality System) Check

  • Supports Prototype Coordinators with all technical questions and change requests (BoM, components, sub-assemblies, quality, building process, technical feasibility/limitations, changes in builds etc.)\

  • Supports Material Handler with material handling and storage best practices, requirements as well as yearly inventory process

  • Supports training of team from the technical and design perspective of the product

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in automotive development.

  • Experience with Prototyping and Design

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or equivalent from four-year college or university

  • 3+ years experience Fundamental 3D modeling and 2D drawing skills

  • 3+ years experience in manufacturing process of steel, aluminum and/or plastic components

  • 3+ years experience in APQP process for developing components for serial production

  • Very limited travel might be needed, either domestic and/or international

Preferred:

  • Steering experience

  • SW Development

  • Preferably experience in CREO/Pro-E

  • Preferably experience in GD&T, DFMEA, DRBFM, DVP&R, DFSS, and VAVE activities

  • Preferably experience in Agile and Lean methodologies

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal, communications and listening skills
