Job SummaryThe Recreation Therapist (RT) is responsible for planning, organizing, and participating in activities, groups, and trips that are therapeutically focused and instrumental to the successful attainment of resident goals and objectives. Working closely with the Residence Manager, the Recreation Therapist will establish strong links within the community and will focus on consistent provision of therapeutic recreation. An integral team member, the RT is responsible for monitoring and maintaining high level communication between all team members including the integration of therapeutic goals and objectives developed in conjunction with the team.About Abbott HouseAbbott House is an innovative community-based organization that helps children, families, adults and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities with complex needs build lasting foundations for a promising future. We operate programs in the New York Metropolitan area and Hudson Valley.Key ResponsibilitiesWork with all children to develop and master coping skills and grounding techniques in close collaboration with the Social Worker.Act as the primary point person for the comfort room as it relates to stocking materials, keeping the room clean and ensuring it is regularly used as intended.Support staff and families coping with trauma, mental healthIncorporate youth voice and choice in the development of all therapeutic activity.Plan, organize, and participate in residence activities groups and recreational activities.Develop a therapeutic recreational needs profile for each resident through an initial assessment and keep records of clinical and behavioral progress in relation to all activities.Participate in treatment planning for all residents.Transport residents to appointments and activities as needed.Establish linkages with provider and community organizations regarding recreational activities.Provide direct supervision of residents in the home.Perform all necessary activities assigned to further the agency’s missionAbout YouYou are the ideal candidate if you have a passion to empower your community and help others.
