W&M Fire Protection Services Shop Assistant- PART-TIME in Plantsville, Connecticut

W&M Fire Protection is a full-service fire protection contractor with complete design, installation, and fabrication capability. W&M has proudly served the tri-state and New England areas for over 30 years and offers a challenging and rewarding work environment.

Due to continued growth, we are looking for a part-time Shop Assistant to join our team in Plantsville, CT. As the Shop Assistant, you will play a critical role in delivering a positive shopping experience to customers by providing friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable service. Key responsibilities include assisting customers with inquiries, replenishing stock, maintaining store presentation, and performing cashier duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in ensuring material is available for the shop and possibly other branch locations

  • Prepares each job in accordance with the fabrication list or verbal/written instructions.

  • Operates shop equipment and machinery in accordance with safety requirements

  • Maintains shop vehicle fleet (scheduled maintenance, coordinate with local repair shops, deliver vehicles to repair shops, etc...)

  • Maintain tools and equipment per manufacturer's guidelines.

  • Reports problems and discrepancies to Management

  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area at all times

  • Assists the Shop Leader as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Good mathematical skills with the ability to read a tape measure and add/subtract fractions

  • Good communication, organizational, reading, and time management skills

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Five years of experience in a shop setting, a plus

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must have a valid Drivers License

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds by self and up to 100 pounds assisted (with another person or mechanical assistance)

  • Ability to climb ladders up to 6 foot

  • Ability to drive a fork-lift

  • Shop environment with exposure to outside elements during all seasons
