Job Description :

The Principal Performance Test Architect will be responsible for partnering with the various Consumer Technology Experience (CTx), Development, Operations/Infrastructure, and Solution Architect teams in designing a comprehensive Performance Engineering framework based on the needs of the business. The architect will be responsible for planning, designing, and rolling out Performance Engineering Test solutions to avoid disruption and re-engineering costs through the early detection of defects by helping build Performance at the onset of a project. In addition, this role will have direct responsibility for cloud platform planning, creation, & maintenance of applications residing on our public cloud instances. This includes Azure, AWS, and Google domains when necessary. The cloud engineering portion of this role will need significant expert level understanding and experience creating and maintaining applications in this area. The Performance Architect should have proficient experience in automated Performance validation in the software delivery through the CI/CD pipeline. The successful candidate will be a strong technologist who is flexible, resilient, an innovative thinker, as well as a natural collaborator with solution architects, software engineers, developers and senior management from across the organization. In addition, the candidate must possess strong technical leadership skills and demonstrated success in working with teams particularly in a matrix fashion.

Responsibilities and Day-to-day view :

  • Possess expert level working knowledge of all key methodologies, strategies, technology, and experience of a performance & cloud engineer.

  • Mentor junior level resources and be able to serve as a guide for peer team members in the test engineering and quality strategic organizations.

  • Design robust Performance Test Strategies that will validate impact of changes to performance of individual applications as well as the consumer technology ecosystem.

  • Design appropriate cloud platform applications and be able to maintain those properties, along with the support of cloud native applications from various vendors.

  • Collaborate with Development, Project Managers and Solution Architects to design application tests to validate performance and resiliency of the consumer technology ecosystem

  • Participate and provide recommendations for ensure Performance is built into the design of a solution. This enables early identification/remediation of issues/defects before the development phase.

  • Work closely with Vendor/Partner teams for execution of load tests based on software delivery/release schedule.

  • Review performance test results and ensure all aspects of infrastructure and application responsiveness are evaluated for delivery to production.

  • Provide key SME leadership within Consumer Quality Engineering (CQE) team on Transformative Efforts and implement industry best practices to Performance Testing.

  • Design and implement automated Performance Testing in the CI/CD pipeline.

  • Define and implement post-mortem / root-cause analysis processes – develop improved testing scenarios based upon analysis.

  • Design and execute Performance tests to support Agile software Delivery.

Qualifications :

  • 10+ years of strong hands-on experience and technical depth in one, or more technology areas, including software engineering, solution architecture, production operations, distributed technologies, performance engineering, resiliency/chaos engineering, and SaaS/Cloud based ecosystems.

  • Expert experience with microservices architecture and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Expert knowledge of infrastructure components (e.g. routers, load balancers, cloud products, container systems, compute, storage, and networks).

  • Expert Knowledge and experience of application architecture concepts, including topology, protocols, components, and principles would be advantages

  • Working experience with Agile Lifecycle & Delivery Management tools such as Jira, Planview, ADO, etc.

  • Expert level experience in Performance testing tools (JMeter, LoadRunner, Grafana K6)

  • Programming experience in one or more languages (scripting/functional/imperative -- C/C++, Java, Python, Scala, R, SQL, etc.) would be advantages but not required.

  • Expert in Analysis tools like (App Dynamics, Dynatrace, Grafana and Splunk)

  • Hands-on experience in tools such as Fiddler, Quantum Metrics, Exe Tool, Heap Analyzer, Google Dev Tools, Core Web Vitals, ELK.

  • Experience in following technologies; Kubernetes Container, CI/CD, Jenkins, Chaos Testing, Salesforce, Azure, AWS.

  • Proven leader with successful track record architecting and rolling out technology transformation initiatives.

  • Strength in both business and technical requirements analysis.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to think strategically about how to create firm wide solutions to business requirements and ability to communicate effectively to both business and technical audiences.

  • Ability to orchestrate and drive complex strategies and solutions.

  • Proven ability to build strong, cohesive partnerships with the business, operations, technology & other key stakeholders, including external vendor partners, and work effectively in a matrix organization.

  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills

Education: Preferred Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Science, Electrical Engineering, or Math; Developer nanodegree; or equivalent experience.

Experience: Typically requires 10+ years’ experience. Technical Career Pathway (TCP) role.

Our Principal System Engineering, earns between $158,200.00-$237,400.00 USD Annual, Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
